Title: April Sales
Post by: leaf on April 30, 2006, 06:10
well i thought i would start this thread off even though it is a day early.  I don't think much is going to happen in the next 12 hours.
I will wait until tommorow to post my %'s though.

otherwise april was a down a bit to what is was 'expected', however, it is to be expected (if that makes sense) with 5 weekends, only 30 days, and easter.

Here is mine.  I submitted the same 230 images to all sites, but of course each one accepted a different percentage.  Featurepics did really well for me last month but this months sales are quite poor.  I assume it is because a lot more people are submitting but the sales are not growing.

3%   123 Royalty Free
19%   BigStockPhoto
16%   Dreamstime
6%   Featurepics
3%   Fotolia
28%   iStockPhoto
0%   StockPhotoMedia
25%   StockXpert
0%   ScanStockPhoto

stockxpert sure looks good there.

I submitted my 10 images to shutterstock right off and I wasn't very careful with my selection.  Only 6 passed and they require that 7 to pass to be accepted.  So I'm waiting for my 3 months to pass before I can submit again.  It should be sometime next month.

wow, fotolia did really well for you.

Did you sell many extended licesnes?  I sold one for 10.00, but i mostly have them priced at $50.00.  perhaps a little high.

I think I've asked this before... What's the % figure you're quoting?  Sales / # of images?  I'll post mine when I get that straight in my head. :-).

I am not going to put percentages - (or should I say I am not going to work them out  :) )  This was my first full month for some sites.

However, in terms of (future) income

1st Fotolia  (income)
2nd Shutterstock (sales/income - close behind FT but with about 4 times as many sales to reach the same figure)
3rd Dreamstime (sales/ income)
4th Featurepics ( income)
5th Istockphoto  (sales/ income)
6th 123rf  (sales/ income)
7th Bigstock  (sales/income - a whole 2 sales !! and a whole load of duff reasons for rejections this month - looked like they just wanted to get though the queue)
joint last - Canstock and Big White Box - no sales

I am just looking forward to the time when I can reach enough sales to get a payout  8)

Hi Leaf,

I think I had two extended licenses this month, my prices are mostly 10-20 Dollar for Extended licenses. Totally I had 4 Extended licences downloaded. Yes Fotolia did very well for me.., but you have to consider, that my earnings are not very good from SS, IS,DT in comparison to yours. I have only 116 Images on SS. So the Extended Licenses are boosting the Fotolia earnings. I never had one at SS.

I think that it is too early for me to report earnings at this time (since I have only been at this for a little over a month).

But I find it extremely interesting that the earnings vary so drastically for each site between all of you.

yeah, i find it interesting as well, that it varries.  It has perhaps somewhat to do with how many images we have accepted at the different places.  However, I think this is also valuable statisfic because if you produce an image, you will want the places that take the images... or i suppose make better images.  However creating images that all the sites think are worth while is almost impossible.

2 sales on 123rf, I've removed all my stuff from there...  Thinking I might join another site this month...  fotolia maybe.

19% shutterstock (http://submit.shutterstock.com/?ref=60535)
25% dreamtime (http://www.dreamstime.com/res125558)
11% fotolia (http://www.fotolia.co.uk/partner/39857)
10% istockphoto (http://www.istockphoto.com/index.php?refnum=Jakich)
6% bigstockphoto (http://www.bigstockphoto.com/?refid=ip416bLuq1)
8% 123RF (http://www.123rf.com/src_cjphoto)
11% StockXpert (http://www.stockxpert.com/?ref=CJPHoto)
1% Canstock (http://www.canstockphoto.com?r=16626)
9% Featurepics

shutterstock (http://submit.shutterstock.com/?ref=60535) was a disappointment but I didn't upload much to them this month.  fotolia (http://www.fotolia.co.uk/partner/39857)is picking up as is istockphoto (http://www.istockphoto.com/index.php?refnum=Jakich). 123RF (http://www.123rf.com/src_cjphoto) and StockXpert (http://www.stockxpert.com/?ref=CJPHoto) and new this month and seem to be good additions due to lack of effort needed to upload. I am ready to give up on Canstock (http://www.canstockphoto.com?r=16626) but then got a DL (my only one to date) on the last day of the month.

dreamtime (http://www.dreamstime.com/res125558) is definately my best though and once all the old credits get used up, it should get even better.  Wonder what this month has in store.  My plan is to get a lot more shots uploaded ,especially to shutterstock (http://submit.shutterstock.com/?ref=60535) as I am still only halfway to my first payout.

Yeah that said about dreamstime is true.  We should see a significant increase in earnings once those darn old credits get used up.  Yesterday i think i had 50% of each.. old and new.
