Title: are username IP ?
Post by: hali on December 25, 2008, 12:29
just wondering, if someone uses your username elsewhere in another stock photo site? can you do anything about it?

take cwheatley, just for example , and the person's real name is christine wheatley,
and you are already famous with the big 6.
or say like some of us here ... vonkara, sharpshot, leaf, lisafx,etc..
whom i know well at istock,etc...

would we be able to get that person to not use our username , since we have been with that name longer than them?
i hope i explain the topic theme correctly.

I don't think login name is protected; on the other hand diplayed name could be considered a brand name. Still, I don't think it is copyrighted by default unless registered as a brand name.

What makes it more complicated is mixture with real words in different languages or names. Apparently my username MikLav that was created from MIKhail LAVrenov is a normal first name in some slavic countries.

Remark: I am not a lawyer, so it's just my personal opinion.

That's an interesting question, but indeed I don't think we can avoid this, other than registering to any site with our nick - not very practical!
