Here is an interesting story of a bag maker - Louis Vuitton suing Hyundai for using their logo in a commercial

Just the sort of reason why we have to remove logos on our images - except for the fact that Hyundai purposely added one in
-
Nice one. I liked the LV-branded recycling skip too.
-
That was a good commercial. But now I can't decide whether to buy my wife another LV handbag or a new Hyundai.
LV should get billions. :D

Brandon,
never mind the Hyundai. There's always the bus :)
Go for the Louis Vuitton bag.
It's to die for :)

I prefer a used plastic grocery bag. Versatile, packs small, and strong.
edit: not to mention stylish

I had to watch the video twice to figure out what they were talking about. That ball appears for a second and I was paying more attention to the people who had the ball than the ball itself....
-
I can't believe an ad agency wouldn't know they needed to get permission for that. Or maybe they did know and used the old "better to ask forgiveness than to ask permission" line of thinking. Except this is costing the company money!

Isn't it the case that Superbowl advert slots are the most expensive air time on the planet? I think they were prepared to spend money to get their message across. If this thing goes viral Hyundai stand to multiply the value of their message hugely. It'll be cheap at the price. LV need to be careful that their protests don't backfire on them too.

i'm afraid LV will lose the lawsuit as there's no LV logo in the Hyundai ad.

Yes, the old "even bad advertising is good advertising" at work.

This is exactly the stand they will take and likely win.
-
I'd hate to be the lawyer who okayed it.

Who said "it's not their logo, it's some common shapes on a ball" let them prove intent!
and the ad agency guy said, "lets watch this explode into millions of free views and publicity."
After the courts throw it out Hyundai will write Louis Vuitton a thank you note. ;D
Louis Vuitton will have proved that they are protecting their trademark (even with a loss) and Hyundai will be enjoying the Toyota recall with increased sales.
Honest now, would anyone here have even noticed the ball if the case hadn't been brought up? I was at a packed bar for the "wardrobe malfunction" Super Bowl halftime event and not one person noticed anything until the news came on pointing it out. Another marketing scam but in that case it backfired because it was actually offensive to some people. Most of those "offended people" never saw it when it happened.

besides, as a european i really wonder what's this superbowl all about ... watching that stuff makes me sleep.

This can be said of all professional sports. There is no bigger yawner in the world.

Last week in Scotland:
Newish kilt chain Slanj (joke spelling) sells tshirts with the slogan "World Cup: anyone but England" playing on the old tradition that Scots will support anyone other than England in any sports event where they are not represented. And thankfully, we didn't qualify for the World Cup.
Policeman goes in and warns them that it might be construed as racist.
Company gets tons of free publicity out of it, including about five minutes on BBC Scottish News.
