Are wide images mostly the result of the photographer or the customer editing.  The shots used on the top of web pages that extend across most of the web page?

Thanks for answering another dumb question for an old crow.

Either Or. Many digital cameras have a panorama mode, or if the photo is large enough it can be edited/cropped to that aspect ratio. Photoshop has a Photomerge utility that creates panoramas and I think Lightroom does too.

Thanks,
I looked quickly at shutterstock to see if there was a category for this and did not see it.  Is there a certain word describing this kind of image.

I create panoramas a lot,  is that just simply what it is called?

Is there a ratio for the images length vs heigth ?

No standard dimension. Many fine artists use 3:1 because 36x12 inch frames are standard. Web banners vary in size. Designers usually "reverse engineer" - they shoot a photo or crop one to fit their space after they do their layout. Web layouts are so flexible these days they could be long and skinny or long and tall.

One of the most common banner ad sizes is 728x90 which translates to an 8.08888888889x1 aspect ratio.
