Just one video on Twitter had at least six release requests. Everyone wants to go viral, no one needs to get paid...

What's funny is the 10's of thousands of new followers he got in the last 24 hours by giving permission to use it freely and "free credit". Oh wait. He didn't. His # is exactly the same... 363 'total' followers... Going 'viral' didn't exactly work for him...

Not necessarily. Some organisations pay as a matter of course. Rare, of course, and becoming rarer.

They're free to ask, and he's free to give it away. He's an amateur, not a stock artist. Not everyone does it to make money.
Just because you didn't film it or didn't get the opportunity to make money like that, doesn't make him an idiot.
That being said, I think more people should value their own content more. Would be better for the creative industry. But blaming individuals for giving away their content isn't going to change the freebies-culture. There will always be people asking for free stuff, deal with it.

There is no value in such a saturated environment, if anyone can do it just as good, it has no value, and everyone has a phone with camera.
I would never expect or ask to be paid for 3sec portrait video snap.

Depends what it is. An unmistakable 3 second clip of Trump involved in some kind of extremely dodgy activity... nobody is going to care if it's portrait and SD, if you're the only one with the shot.
