Title: Best place to sell
Post by: Gabriela on April 22, 2014, 08:21
Hello,
I found this website and am fascinated with the amount of information out there.

2 years ago I started selling my images in Getty's always hoping they choose them via Flickr. All this time I sold something but not much and would like to know your opinion about which is the site that can bring us more sales.

Of course, the quality and theme, etc counts, but in general rules, which do you think can bring me more sell.

I would like to focus more on selling my images to have an extra income.

Thanks for your opinions.

Depends on your quality, work ethic, style, quantity, subject matter, etc.  The list on the right shows "agencies" by performance, but that does not necessarily apply to "you".  Also, keep in mind you need to research which sites _you_ actually want to work with, because of fairness, legal terms, etc.

Thank you Sean, Getty is not even on this list, why?

I apply on Shutterstock and they refuse 5 of my ten images, so I will try again.

To be honest is a bit Chinese language all the info agencies have on their websites, I try to understand the most but my english it's not really good.

Do you know if we can put some images on one agency and other images in other agency?

This is a microstock forum.  Getty is macrostock (higher priced).

Image/artist/series exclusivity depends on the agency.  You will have to check the agreements at each.

Gabriela..
The worlds leading microstock agency is shutterstock.
Next comes fotolia, and dreamstimes. the rest are irellevant.
istock will freak you out, and wont sell, so stay away from them.
Focus on shutterstock.

Post your images up here for a critique if you dare, and if you dont dare, you are not the type who can cope with the stress of the microstock world.

The best place to sell is on your own site. It's just not easy or convenient for everyone to do.

I agree with that but you need a hand for self-marketing

I still make a good amount at SS, but it is only 15% of my stock income. If I ignored everything else besides SS, FT and DT, I'd miss out on a lot of great opportunities.

Yeah, just talking about me. I'm not sure what to tell other people than try things out and see what works.

there are many here who don't dare to ask for critiques for reasons other than competency or stress -- not to mention the many who post anonymously

eg, where's the link to YOUR site ?

It's business, not charity. They take c2/3rds. No-one needs to be 'nice' about any of them.

I agree! that said I believe we should appreciate the hard work SS have been doing in terms of maintaining and attracting new buyers, I won't talk "badly" about an agency that have shown growth since the 1st day, its just my way

Replying to one perspective/opinion with one's own different perspective/opinion, isn't "talking badly", it's just sharing information. SS doesn't do equally well for everyone, even if it sometimes seems that way here. Like Sean implied, everyone has to work out which agency will work best for them, both in terms of business ethics (what any individual can stomach) and in terms of whose buyers are the best match with your port.
