Title: Best seller - not just at SS
Post by: Dan on May 05, 2013, 17:28
I  have  one  that  has  the  potentail  of  becoming  a  best  seller.  So  far  19  times  at  fotolia  -  selling  several  times  a  month.  It's  not  a  big  amount  now  but  given  time  it  can  skyrocket.
31  times  over  4  agencies.  At  least  it  proves  i  might  be  on  the  right  track  with  the  pic.

And the more the get of those, the better and better the market indication will help you to focus your work. A good seller at 1 site might not always be a good 1 at another. Not due to the image not being good, but due to the difference in client base.

Enjoy the sales. It is nice to have a constant seller, make you feel really better about the little time you spent on that one, compare to the hundreds of hours you did on the none sellers.  :P

How long has it been online? Averaging 8 sales per agency is quite slow considering a best seller gets downloaded daily, unless you uploaded it last week. My best seller across all agencies has about 500 downloads which is not much either, considering an image needs to get thousands of downloads to bring in real money.

31 downloads is probably around 15 dollar.

Good luck.

Edit: As Charl says, study it and make more of those quality. Its a good indicator of what the buyer wants. If you have a portfolio full of such images, you are doing well

Glad for your edit Poncke, V2 is definitely an improvement  ;)

Dan is a starter, so getting that number of sales on any image at this stage is an achievement for him (might not be in other people's books).

And it is so much more difficult now as a starter than it was five or more years ago.

more  of  a  re-starter.  after  health  problems  -  i'm  really  puting  in  an  effort  this  year.  i'm  hoping  i  can  get  some  more  really  good  sellers  but  even  a  few  that  move  slow  may  show  me  which  direction  to  go  in.  one  step  at  a  time.

Good for you Dan.

Like you I've had health problems meaning sporadic uploading and like you I had a minor microstock victory last week (my first ever EL sale *wooyay*) but these small things are what keeps you going and as said above, help you improve.

BTW, I think Poncke uses a hexadecimal base system so v2 is actually nearer v1.6 (only kidding R  ;)).

My honey bears sold pretty well at iStock, but not anywhere else. Was a shame to pull them down, but it was more of a shame to have them at iStock.
