Hi,

Investing hundreds or thousands in a photoshoot (models, props, make-up artist etc) and uploading these images to microstock agencies doesn't seem to make sense any longer.

Do you recommend any boutiqe/ high end/ mid or macrostock agencies (whatever you call it) where it still make sense to work on stock photography ? I mean good curation (preferably with direct contact with curators), fair commission and most importantly - good sales. I have nothing against exclusivity (image exclusive).

Of course Stocksy is a good example, but it is just one I am aware of.

Offset,cavan,adobe premium,westend61,blendimages,tetra, stockfood,mauritiusimages and probably lots more.

Have a look at the list of partners of gettyimages, I think you will find over 200 agencies.

Then look at what they do and if you might fit their style.

What nobody can predict is which one is the best money earner for you.

Yes I heard about Cavan as well! Does anyone have any experience with them ?

With adobe premium you have to be invited. I don't think you can just apply...

Hi...stocksy is the latest of all this... far to be the "only one"is the "Cheapest one" because I think Stocksy was created versus micro stock prices but it really hurts macro prices with the middle stock with macro quality (or best)... For me is the best price equilibrium, you have regular and premium clients. Mercedes is interested in your exclusive cheap picture and the owner of your city Gym can buy also the same image.

I know how work some macro sites and in my opinion is 1 Offset and very far for me 2 Getty 3Adobe premium/ infinite (work best in adobe sell for 100 credits xl than 500 credits xl)

Today is a hell get photos accepted in offset. Getty for me is very down in earnings, less than only shutter and pay junk. Adobe Premium is hard be in (you can't apply)

Others: Plainpicture, Folyo, Dissolve, Arcangel... But if you talk about earn money...

Cavan; Distribute your photos to adobe, offset... and sell in their web but take sure you upload enough good pictures. I think westend61 is best option (they distribute to 100 macro sites and sell in their web)

The ones where you get the highest sales are Blend, SPL, Offset, Trevellion!  dont know about Stocksy but I should imagine there are decent sales. none of these are easy to get into but still.

I compiled a list of Midstock & boutique agencies a few months ago with their respective commission rates and barriers to entry...here's the link:

www.brutallyhonestmicrostock.com/list-of-midstock-agencies/

I'll probably update it soon.

Thank you JaenStock and derek for valuable responses.

If Cavan distribute to Offset and if Offset sells well, than Cavan seems to be a good option, isn't it ? (westend61 as well).
Is Cavan similar in attitude towards contributors to Stocksy ? Is it as hard to get it ?

Any of these agencies that can give you a serious income will all have suptertop quality expectations. and also they want you to contribute on a regular basis.

There will always be thousands of applications.

I would recommend to keep following their blogs and social media channels, retweet or repost any of their advertising, start making yourself known as someone with a serious interest in them as a community and company. If they have an exhibit in your area or are on a trade show go ad visit them.

But quality lifestyle images trump everything.

If you are really good, they will contact you and invite you in.

They all have people scanning the internet or instagram for great talent. If they have any online games or online competitions, take part to get noticed.

I would also add www.photocase.com which has awesome images and I've heard has  fairly good sales in Germany and Internationally.
