Check it out!  brightqube.com

It's a similar concept to Image Trail, but includes a "Professional" section for macrostock and an "Everyday" section for microstock.

I love the full-Flash interface. Very funky and slick.

Dreamstime seem to be the only microstock agency with images in the database at the moment. Found some of mine there, but the Author field was blank.

Just checked it out and found some of mine there, too, with a blank author field. Why is that? Will we be paid if our images sell there? How did thay get these images in the first place? Did they just purchase images from DT and then upload them to their site? Or, do they have an agreement with DT that we don't know about? Lots of questions. Very puzzled.  :o

DT announced a couple weeks ago that they are starting to market through affiliates.  This is probably one of those affiliates.  The site does say "beta" in a couple different places so I wouldn't expect everything to be working correctly.

If you want to op-out, then go to DT and do so in the management section under the "Affiliates" area.

Thanks for the info wysiwyg_fot. If this is one of the affiliates that's OK. Missed that announcement.

...ooops, sorry - it's the "Alliances" area not the "affiliates" area.  My mistake.

Does anyone know what the royalty schedule is for this affiliate?  In other words, how much will we get for a sale?

If you can understand what they're trying to say on this page you'll know.

Then please explain it to me!

Ok, just got an email from Ellen that explains it:

Alliances that pay full commission to contributors get access to all images.

Alliances that don't pay full commission to contributors only get access to images of contributors who have opted-in to the Alliances option on the page I linked above.

All good now.  ;D

She also said that BrightQube are EXCLUSIVE with Dreamstime. I take this to mean that there'll be no other microstock agencies coming on board, which seems a very odd strategy from the BrightQube point of view.

One final thing. The news got out before it was intended. That's why there haven't been any press releases yet. How did Paul Melcher know??

Nothing like a bit of self-conversation.

Further details have come to light:

- Blank author field is a beta issue and will be resolved before full launch.
- Images cannot be licensed until full launch
- Launch is scheduled for October

A very intriguing idea - it's natural to search for an image visually instead of using keywords, which is exactly what this site is attempting.

Navigation wasn't as easy or straightforward as it could be, and there should be a way to dynamically change the thumbnail size. I played around with a few searches and found their engine to be a bit weak. Given the graphical nature of the interface, it would be a natural to arrange images according to color and brightness (e.g. top row = white, bottom row = black, left side = dark, right side = bright); instead the images are displayed in (seemingly) named or numbered order - easy to implement, but a definite hinderance to finding an appropriate image quickly.

One bit I found striking was the similarity between the "professional" images (from Corbis) and the "everyday" images (from DT). After poking around with similar searches, I really couldn't spot much of a difference between the two (apart from file size, that is). If anything I found the Corbis stuff to be a bit lacking - there's just no way that even the slackest microstock agency would ever accept some of it. Given that the pro material is sold at $100+ a pop, it's a pretty easy guess that absolutely nothing will sell there.

If they can perfect the interface they will definitely have a winner on their hands. I hope the leading agencies are taking note of this place ... if not their sales will suffer.

Thanks for the link, Lee!

I checked out the site and did a brief test.

I first searched for "movie ticket" and it seemed to come up with a lot of images that didn't have a ticket at all.

I then tried to narrow down my search slightly by searching for "blue movie ticket".  I figured that would result in a lot less hits, but it actually seemed to increase the number of results exponentially.

I finally searched for "ticket" and it ended up with the smallest result set.

So it seems that multiple words in the search are treated with the conditional "or".  In other words "movie ticket" is treated as "movie or ticket" and "blue movie ticket" is treated as "blue or movie or ticket".  So the more keywords you enter, the more results you will get.

This seems counter-intuitive to me.  It makes searching for complex phrases (such as "real estate") difficult.  It also makes narrowing down results difficult.

Hopefully they will fix this before it hits the streets.

the only question will be : "how much royalties will we get from DT if an image is sold on that site"

That's a trade secret Perrush. Just to give an indication, my sunsets are sold at a BigStock affiliate site for 70$. I only see 1$ on BigStock, and I don't know if it's from that affiliate site.

What do you want? 1$ of 70$ or 0$ from 0$? On BigStock as well as on DT, you can opt out of these schemes.

So it seems that multiple words in the search are treated with the conditional "or".

I found out the same. They don't "AND". Searches are pretty useless now. The flash programming also blocks my (slow) PC, so I just avoid the site for now.

I was wondering what the members the forum think about newbielink:http://www.brightqube.com/ [nonactive] ?  We (yes I'm the CIO) resell high-end stuff from Getty, Jupiter, Corbis, and over 40 other collections.  But we also resell microstock (Dreamstime is our source).  We are trying to launch a user contributed community over the next few months.

My question to you all, is: Is our pageless search and the ability to buy images from $500 to $1, a compelling advantage to you - the photographer community; especially if you were to be able to set the price of your own images!?

I hope the answer is yes, and if so, please stay tuned (or bookmark us if you 'digg' us  :) ) for the developments ahead.  And if not, I'd like to hear that too.  I guess what I'd like most, is to build this out the way you all want it to be.  What has none of the other guys gotten right, that we could to make your lives easier?

Yes, I am interested in the $500 to $1.  There are other sites that let us choose our own prices but they haven't had much success yet.  I think that is because they haven't spent enough on marketing.  The sites that do well have big adverts in the design magazines.

I like to sell RM as well as RF, so that might be one area that most of the microstock sites don't deal with.

It would be good to be able to set up different portfolios.  One for low priced RF images, one for higher priced RF and one for RM would be useful.

Any site that is able to sell my images for big bucks is compelling to me.

I have no idea how to PRICE images - who the heck knows what the buyers will pay? With images selling for hundreds of thousands of dollars down to $1... i have no clue.

I thought you are search engine for stock photos. You cannot re-sell pictures from Dreamstime for $500, right? Last time I checked there was clear distinction between micro and macro search. You do not mix them on one page, right? I am curious how I could set my own prices unless Iwould be able to contribute thru Brightqube?

They are a reseller.  They are already selling your photos if you have them on Dreamstime.

I tried to do a search for some but too * slow.

I cannot find my images from dreamstime in their search (Everyday (blue) search option). Is there something that I need to change in my dreamstime account setting to be listed there too?

Same for me, very specific image 188 matches, none are my three.

I do like the big page less search which gives best matches the center and at the same time allows someone to look at all images at once.

Also did a very specific search for a few of my images and had zero hits.

I like the cubes, but would like it to be more maplike, and be able to grab the page and pull it around from there.

You need to be enrolled in the Alliance and Partnership program. http://www.dreamstime.com/alliances
In case your are enrolled and your images are not listed at all the partner sites, then you may also want to drop a line at the dreamstime message board at this topic http://www.dreamstime.com/thread_8611

If we are not listed at all the partner site because of maybe a bug or other error, then we could miss out on sales.
