Title: Buying photo/video portfolio
Post by: korner83 on June 16, 2021, 15:22
Hello guys,

I was wondering if it is possible to buy image/video collection from other artists. Do you have any sample for the license agreement or contract which would make it possible to sell these digital assets as a new owner?

Thanks for your help.

Hello Guys,

It looks like this topic is not so popular or there is not too much experience about it. I have started a poll, it might help to understand better how we think about this question.

Let me know what you think about it.

Thanks

what about a question like 'would you be prepared to buy other peoples images'?

I might consider it, but the price would have to be high.  I think the buyer would be making a mistake.

Does it ever happen that someone sells an entire portfolio or even part of it? I have never heard of such a thing. An interesting idea, though.

I almost sold my entire portfolio. We'd agreed a price and everything, but when he sent over the agreement it turned out he wanted my accounts as well... to transfer ownership of them to him. My plan was to sell the content for a bit of a cash injection to upgrade my computer and invest in some software... and then get back to making more content... so it didn't happen in the end.

I have bought footage from 2 other fotographers

I think it was slightly profitable, but their quality of work was kinda low

Hello guys,

Thanks a lot for your reply and voting in the poll. I was thinking about it to buy others portfolio or images, but it looks like that most of the artist would not consider this as an option. Most of them told me that they might need those photos one day in the future, or they just do not want to spend any time about selecting the proper assets. I think they might be also afraid of the license and contract documents.

If there is any article about this topic on internet, please let me know. I would be happy to see some sample documents and would be great to know who to do it properly. (For example how do you know if the other artist is the original owner or how do you specify the certain photo in a batch in one single document, etc.)

Thanks,

ough.
Someone did it this very week via the Alamy forum, or at least it's 'under offer', and went under offer very quickly after it was posited.
The general opinion was that the OP had undervalued their port.
I don't see it now, maybe the thread was removed ...
