There is one way to stop Videoblocks race to the bottom.

I think if websites would put an ultimatum to creators: If your giving your stuff away on VB
you cannot work with us!

If most contributors won't be there they will either sell a smaller collection or have to change policy.

Perhaps what we don't get is that "we" are expendable before "our work".
Whatever happens to "us" is  a good "Example" for "all" others.
Agencies are more likely to  use this in order to try attract contributors to "own"
marketplace or exclusive options rather than speak bad in public
as long as this would reflect to the whole industry and customer base.
Devaluated clips and contributors are easily replaced by thousands new ones per day.
Nobody want to hear negatives, complains or just the ugly side of stock.
If I got it right reading here as long as I do not participate there,
SS deleted threads on thieves and stolen images is a good example (?).

Exactly, couldn't have said it better myself, when it comes to extreme low priced sites like VB or the free sites, if you are there then you cannot work with us and "us" being every other agency that is trying to run a business and make a profit for themselves let alone us suppliers.

We all have to be with several agencies as it is no longer possible to make a living working with just one but not the extreme low priced sites like VB or the free sites.

It is an excellent idea and I perfectly agree.
It is not easy for other agencies to do it, but I hope they will

i agree with this...if  big  agencies like adobe shutterstock and pond5 wouldn't accept clips that are on storyblocks or envato subs plans they'd do a big favour to the industry and likely artists there would leave them...

Naive in the extreme. Knee-jerk reaction without thinking of where it would lead.

First off, many of the agencies already have 'exclusive only' categories -- some at the artist level and and some at the media level. OK, that "solves the problem, as stated," doesn't it?  The agency does not want to get into policing where you put each and every image. You are either exclusive, or you are not.

Let's suppose, they DID go the "if your media is on VB, it cannot be here" approach, and it actually worked.  What do you suppose would be the result?  We all sit by the campfire and sing Kimbayah?  Not likely.  One of the three following scenarios (or maybe all) would play out:

1) The remaining agencies would look at each other, see there is now "room at the bottom, price-wise" and take over that new slot, selling for less, in order to undercut the competition. We are back to where we are now.

2) The remaining CBA (Controlling Block of Agencies) would choose the next agency to kick off the island.  Hey, it worked the first time, so let's get rid of one more competitor!  Where does that leave us? Everyone on the "new kid kicked off the island" needs to go remove their portfolio (if the New Kid even allows it), and the CBA gets yet a bit stronger.

3) If this goes far enough, then one or more of the "kids kicked off the island" will complain to the government about collusion and monopoly practices. They would be right in fact, since such things are strictly forbidden by law -- with the intent of protecting you (the user) from monopoly practices. The government would break them up... and we are back where we started again...

The SB/VB collection is reasonably average in comparison to SS/P5. Hopefully clients recognize the gulf in quality and quantity
