Researchers at Penn State put together a photo ranking algorithm that you can now test for yourself on the web. It's called Acquine (http://acquine.alipr.com/), and it's based on data from large numbers of human ratings that determined what people find aesthetically pleasing in a photo.

Very interesting! who knows, this might be the future of the photo review process :D Just kidding.
I'm a bit hesitant to upload some of my pictures as the website says: "Photos may be viewed by others." I guess the photo stays in their database?

It's based on statistics so it seems like more than 20% of people might not like this photo.
I am guessing most of micros showing business people handshakes would not get high scores either. Picture which got over 90 are probably what most people would like to have framed on their walls :-)

My best seller (rank 4 or so) on DT (which was sold this morning for 5$ again) rated 32.9/100.
This one (http://cjoint.com/data/fwf7DrdKsc.htm) was rated 90.1/100.
So professor Falcon, how about a nice game of chess (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NHWjlCaIrQo)? ;D

Nice idea, but I doubt it will be possible in near future. It should be some artificial intelligence.

Who knows anything about aestetic value?
It is NOT POSSIBLE to make rating because aestetic merits are changing during time and they are circling like planet Earth is going around the sun...
Can you determine 'modern colors'? NOPE!
No possible to do such thing as determining aestetic quality.
