I had Christmas downloads in February. And April. And June.

I first saw Christmas related promotional material appear in my inbox in June. I'm quite sure planning for Christmas advertising campaigns for many companies (espeically the larger ones) will already be well advanced. Stock Christmas images may well be downloaded in the weeks running up to Christmas, but there is going to be demand for it much earlier in the year. It is certainly not to too soon to upload.

Thank you John for the input. I did some research myself in the meantime and they all reinforce your opinion.
This old blog post is useful as well: http://www.shutterstock.com/blog/when-should-i-submit-pictures-of-snowmen (http://www.shutterstock.com/blog/when-should-i-submit-pictures-of-snowmen)

This week, the first christmas cookies and merchandise are reaching the stores, which means it was all printed and boxed long before that.
If you want to make money with christmas a large part of your files should be online before September.

Thanks Cobalt.
I have some photos and illustration in my port from last year but I'm afraid, a part of those is deeply buried already. I'll start working on new ones, on the double.

Yeah, it seem to have began.
I had 5-10 Christmas related downloads in the last couple weeks.
