Title: Dangers of Debt concept - $1000 in prize money
Post by: leaf on January 14, 2010, 17:00
There is a contest going on, on this website
http://wildfireapp.com/website/6/contests/15558?order=recency&view_entries=1 (http://wildfireapp.com/website/6/contests/15558?order=recency&view_entries=1)

looking for an image relating to the dangers of debt.  If you up for the challenge, it could be a good topic for a stock shoot, with the possibility of winning a prize.  The competition doesn't look very strong (yet) so everyone who enters could have a good chance of winning.

NB: it is apparently only open to US residents.

Well, it's poorly worded, but they're pretty much rights-grabbing all the entries to do with as they wish:
"# Grants to Consumers Union non-exclusive rights to publish the Image in any Consumers Union or Consumers Reports publication, website or other form of media in perpetuity and the name of Contestant in connection with the Image.
# Grants to Consumers Union the non-exclusive right to publish or license or authorize publication of any Image entry submitted for the duration of copyright in the Image."

They can even license your work. That'll put you in debt. :)  Maybe an image of someone submitting to their contest ;) ...

Are these actual photographer doing this? The photos are really bad and most of them in my opinion aren't even related to debt. Let's go for it and get rich so we can conquer the dangers of debt!!...lol

yeah, it's a shame contests always have such broad legal terms.  But really - if you decided to go for this and took 20 images on the concept and submitted your single best image.  They now have the 'right' to sell that image if they want.. is that really going to put you under.  iStock exclusives perhaps couldn't sell that image, but a non-exclusive photographer could and it isn't like they are planning on opening a stock agency, they are just covering themselves in case they want to sell things or brand themselves with your image.
