Title: December Earnings Report
Post by: Brasilnut on December 25, 2019, 07:36
I’ve decided to publish a few days early since many readers are chilling out at home consuming too many calories, plus I don’t expect many sales between today and the 31st (if I do I’ll simply update).

I’m keen to draft a more comprehensive year-end report, including the Turd of the Year nomination, and goals / plans for 2020. Will be out in an few days, naturally. Meanwhile, check out Dec results:

Interesting reading, thanks for sharing.

About Alamy: "They are by far the most inconsistent of agencies." Maybe good that anyone considering them, gets that well known fact into their head. Alamy is not Microstock, it's not going to have many repeat sales or consistent sales volume month to month. (I've never had the same image sell twice that I can recall, others might have more diverse subjects)

I still like the better returns when there is a license.

It all looks rather sad or even catastrophic, 123RF wins here - 4000+ images = 4$, there are worse but with worse or no expectations at all.
Overall, it all looks like a lot of work and time just by looking at the number of agencies submitted to with rather low return.

Looking at it and comparing it (totally unscientific) to me I get a little feeling of hope given that I have a significantly smaller ports (and less time devoted) but not as smaller returns, thou it could be a sheer illusion on my part.

Anybody looking at Alamy needs to think at least 3 years ahead and just keep uploading useful content consistently and with accurate metadata. I also don't have so many repeat sales on there. I do like them because $100+ gross sales are a reality (as seen on my report), unlike at micros. By the way, those two images that sold for $100+ are widely available at micros, which goes to show that buyers probably don't shop around.

At microstock, 6 months should be long enough to know whether an image will sell, if ever.

123RF clearly have hit rock bottom for me but so have the other minnows. I just can't see how they can compete with the likes of iStock (which are heading towards rock bottom) and the other majors. I'd be curious to chat with a buyer on there and ask them why they choose those minnows rather than the majors.

The worry is that they go on some sort of garage sale unlimited pics for $10 a month as Canva turds have done. If they do go down that path they'll quickly get a fk off note from me and I'll withdraw my port. Need to keep an eye on them.

I would suggest to get into footage asap, especially if you can upload in 4K. Good earning days for stills are gone unless you have a very specific niche that you can exploit.

For me, Adobe Stock have been terrible this month, below SS and IS. Big drop in earnings, worst month in 4 1/2 years. No idea what they've done but it ain't been pretty. The rest have been normal for December.
