Hi all,

As a newbie to stock, I spend most of my time typing up photo descriptions, keywords, and titles in a Microsoft Word table that I use to save and track info to resumit my images to different stock sites.

Now I am starting to read more and more about software that helps store and sort images and their IPTC data.

Can anyone tell me more information about how this works, pros and cons of using it as opposed to my archaic system, and possibly suggest some (hopefully free!) software that I could use?  Once I've inputted this type of data, can I still upload using the simple "web uploaders" on most sites?

Any info or advice is much appreciated ...

When I finished an image, I first use Bridge which comes with photoshop to give the image keywords, a description and a title. The pro is that in bridge you can make new keywords, so the next time you only have to click on that keyword.

After that I use prostockmaster to upload it to different sites.

In this programm there is also a possibility to put in your keywords, to generate new ones for an image and to give it a title. But I'm only using this programm for a week now.
You can download it for free and then you have the possibilitie to upload 5 different images to all the sites they provide (or just to the site you want to, you can choose that).
If you want to upload more images, then you buy the license for $49

After uploading you still have to go to the sites to upload Model releases etc.

It saves me a lot of time

My advice is to make sure that your title, description, keywords and copyright are in the JPEG you upload. Keep track of it however else you like, but you want the metadata in the image. The images will outlast any one piece of software that is currently in use and when you want to upload the images somewhere new, you'll have all the data right there ready to go.
