Title: Do anyone has more than one portfolio at a given site?
Post by: beisea on May 30, 2008, 14:34
I have been doing microstock for two yeas, and things have been pretty decent for me, however I noticed one interesting fact:

I do commericial architecture, models, and landscape, since I have been reasonably successful in architecture, so my most popular will be always architecture, so people have to dig deep into my portfolio to find landscape and model photos, as a result, the other photos are not getting the fair share of the exposure.

So do any one has more than one portfolio at one site? especially for for guys with a dominant catergory of images, if you don't have a separate portfolio, are you short change yourself? thanks.

Wouldn't you need two profiles to do that?  And wouldn't that be against site policy in most cases?  I would red the site terms and policies before I attempted that.  You may get in trouble.   Couldn't you just add a lightbox to call attention to the images?

I was wondering the same thing , but first that I would like to know , is  that allowed ?

I was reading at SS forum that some people claim that they have more than one portfolio there ?

bad waters to tread in...you violate 99% of web site's policies. Move forward at your own risk.

I have two portfolios at FP (madelaide and adelaide), with the site management knowledge (they even transfered images to the second account when I decided to have two separate accounts).  The downside is that payouts take longer with sales split in these two accounts.

They are different types of images with different price ranges (microstock and non-microstock). That's the reason I see to have separate accounts.  Maybe also if you want to separate photos from illustrations.

Adelaide

Do you think this would be possible at Shutterstock?

I have no idea. I am not in SS, and in fact I don't know if any other site allows this. Some posts before mine imply that they do not. I don't think there should be an issue except in places like IS or MP where you can rate images to boost their position in searches.

Even if allowed it would seem to be more of a waste of time to keep something like that going. I mean most buyers seem to work using keywords for what they are looking for. Why would they want to spend time looking through individual portofolios that might have a thousand images on it? Lightboxes and galleries seems more reasonable.

It's allowed at SS.  Scott Maxwell (I think that's his name), the gold figures guy has two accounts one for his gold figures and one for another colour. It was talked about openly in the SS forums so I guess that it is OK.

Yes I believe he does. Also keep in mind though he has something like 10,000 plus images. So accommodations were made for him, even though it may not be standard practice.
