Title: Do you remove your non-selling images
Post by: leaf on September 05, 2007, 12:31
Inspired by a post by sharply...

Do you remove your non-selling images why or why not?

I did  a clean out at istock once, but that was all.  I am a little unsure of what is best.  Perhaps those 100 images will all sell once a year on each site (5 sites)- well that makes $500.  But on the other hand, perhaps it is worth something to have a tight portfolio.

Do buyers actually look at a persons portfolio and decide wether to buy or not based on what else they see?

I don't do that. Some of those obscure non-sellers do get some rare surprizing sales. So, why not... it's not like their maintenance costs me anything. I am not sure there is any downside in keeping them online unless there is evidence that buyers actually look through one's portfolio and run in disgust if see early uploads being not up to par... Rady to change my mind though if presented with evidence :)

I had 3 non-sellers with Extended Licenses (SS & FT) in July so that is some good cash I would be without.

I do, however, intend to cull my files when my numbers are just a little higher.  A good 1/4 of my old files are simply photos.  Now I have a much better idea what stock is all about, so no sense keepin those around.

I only remove pictures which don't meet current quality standards anymore. Removing pictures just because they don't sell sounds a bit strange - something that has been removed won't sell for sure, something still online perhaps will. And as mentioned above there are some suprising downloads for "non-sellers" from time to time ...

Well I don't have an mega-portfolio yet like most of you, so every pic counts right now...
I can foresee a time when I will eliminate some of my earlier work, as they too are just  'photos'  as someone mentioned. Heck, now, some of that stuff is even embarrassing...   LOL :D...   on the other hand, the reviewer on duty the day I uploaded it must have thought it was okay....?  LOL

None-the-less,  I am continually surprised  how often a pic that I uploaded 8 months to a year ago... that never sold...  suddenly sells and then, will sell 3 or 4 times more in the immediate future.  In that,  I am hesitant to delete 'non-sellers'.    8)-tom
