Title: Do you talk about photography more than you take and submit pictures?
Post by: Hoodie Ninja on March 26, 2009, 17:27
I notice that quite a few people post a lot.  Do you ever find that you're talking about photography more than actually doing it?  Do you think your sales would go up if you chatted less and took more pictures?  Do you ever find yourself using the forums as a creative avoidance for doing what you really should be doing?

I know I'll get a lot of smart-aleck responses, but I pose this question with all seriousness.  How much time do you delegate for forums vs. actually taking, processing, and submitting pictures?

... stop posting and start shooting.
oops, better run, i think flemish is coming round the corner! byeeee !  ;D
P.s.
just so flemishdreams knows. i took his advice. posted 12 images to fotolia and dreamstime. all accepted. so, you see, i have been working.  ;D

Hmm, guilty.  I have another problem that is not being objective in what to work everytime I set myself to pick some images, edit, keyword and submit.

I am not very focused.  ;D

Guilty as charged.

Though there are times when I write but couldn't take pictures (like in my 5-minutes-mental-breaks in the office...). I still spend way too much times in forums and stuff anyway. :-)

In my case, I don't shoot pictures.  I don't process images.  I take care of the paperwork end of the business.  I keyword and submit, and keep tabs on what's going on in the forums :)  I also make decisions on whether to continue uploading, kill sub/affiliate sales, or pull ports down.
I don't know how you shooters do it, Robert needs three of him to keep up with all his work!

lol.  I wouldn't say any one person was the inspiration for this post, but I do see quite a few names come up regularly in just about any/every post I read.  ;)
I was just wondering if my suspicions were true.....and they are.  ;D

You'll find me much less around here starting in April and until the end of October. That's my prime time for shooting.

Last year it took me until January to sort all that out. Finished uploading my most recent project for Microstock two weeks ago.

I'm on break unless I get inspired with some more marginal ideas.  :D

I plead guilty!  ::)

My biggest problem is I still have a ton of pictures from before I got into stock that I want to process so I'm constantly playing catchup.
Then I have a ton of projects I would like to take pictures of, but haven't yet.
And this month I've had a bunch of other stuff going on so stock hasn't been even been on my list of things to do.
At least my pictures are still making me money even when I'm not submitting.  ;D

I tend to do a lot of shooting in the nicer months since I'm usually out hiking.  Winter is good for stretching my wings and trying some studio work.    :)

well, another reason too is that i don't shoot much in winter. so i am only mostly doing isolated shots and (lately, self portraits )... so i spend a lot of time here .
when Spring finally comes (if it does), i won't be here too much if any, as i leave my pad and don't even come home until the cows come back  ;D
but one thing is sure, i will always be here, as this is where i 've made some of the nicest friends since i started in micro stock  :)

Succsessfull selfemployed business is always: talking as much as you can, thinking about what was talked about and doing what resolved on this thoughts.
It works also in turnaround: do something, ask others why it won't be functioning...
In any case, if you don't communicate you are in he wrong business i presume...

This made me laugh out loud. Really, laugh out loud, not just LOL.

I realised early on that I wasn't going to make much money taking photos, so I tried monetizing the talking-about-it part. I'm getting closer.

Matt,
Question: Was the shark eating your head or pukeing your head back out. Possible bad taste or something????
