Title: Do You Upload Your Shots to Sites in Any Order?
Post by: GeoPappas on May 18, 2006, 17:13
For those of you that submit to multiple sites:

Do you upload to all sites at once?

Or do you upload to a specific site first, wait for approval, then upload to a second site, then wait for approval, etc?

All the Big Three SS, IS, DT at once and then maybe Stockxpert and fotolia..

Any reason for that ordering?

I like to do the big 3 (SS, IS, DT) all at once. Unfortunately it usually works out to being only SS and DT first because they take FTP uploads and IS doesn't.  It takes so * long to do IS, even using multiple Firefox tabs, that it ends up taking me a couple of days to finish if I have a large grouping.  I just started submitting to Fotolia this week so they will be added to the list of the ones I upload to first.  I sure wish IS would get on the FTP bandwagon.  I tried that ImageManger app they offer but lost my patience with it.  I don't bother doing one at a time since they all seem to have different ideas of what should be rejected.  Just my .02.

I upload to DT, SS, BS and Fotolia using FTP. When that is done, I start uploading to IS and begin to categorise the images on DT, SS, BS and FL. Normally when all this is done I will bulk upload to 123rf and CS. Now SX looks like it is really going to be a player, I will probably ftp uplaod to that at the same time as the other three sites that offer ftp.

Yes, because there you get the most money for effort. Fotolia has ftp, but it still takes a little to long to finish them after they are uploaded. Fotolia is a bit slow..

I am similar to this but I wait a while for IS as I only submit photos that get accepted at most of the other sites (this is my screening process, otherwise I waste too much time just to get a rejection).

Hi Phi,

same workflow I have here. :)

I suppose any newbies would be better waiting for some feedback from the other groups before uploading to IS if they only have a 30 photo/week limit (like I do) if they have a lot of photos to submit.

I read somewhere about a guy who had set up his own nanostock agency and once he had uploaded his photos to his server it would FTP them to the sites that were FTP friendly. Need to find that newsgroup e-mail.

I guess that I have a slightly different workflow for uploading to the sites.

I submit to the sites that allow keyword editing first.  This way I can upload the photos with a minimum amount of keywords, and once they are accepted I can start adding all of the keyword variations/synonyms.

Once I feel that the keywords are finalized, I will then submit to the sites that don't allow keyword changes.

don't all sites allow for changing the keywords after?

No.  Fotolia, BigStock, and 123RF do not allow keywords to be modified.

Also, I have heard that Shutterstock will review your image and possibly your portfolio if you submit keyword changes.

GeoPappas don´t you use IPTC data? it´s really a time saver

I second that!  IPTC data saved me a ton of time.  I really hate keywording so having the ability to only have to do it once for all my photos was a life saver.  I just wish iStock would get with the program. (It doesn't seem work on their site.  At least with the program I use.)

Yes, I use IPTC metadata.

The thing is that I don't usually think of all the keywords before I upload.  By the time I take the shot, download the images to my PC, edit the RAW, convert from RAW to TIFF, edit the TIFF, and then convert to JPG, I just want to upload the photo.  I would rather upload the photos with a few obvious keywords and then see if they are appoved, then spend time researching keywords and then the photo is rejected.  And then once the image is approved and time makes itself available, I can add more keywords over the next week or so.  Then once I think that I have all of the keywords that I will need, I will upload the file to the sites that don't allow keyword modifications.

I edit the iptc data with photoshop 7, save the data and then apply to other similar images and maybe change one or two words if i want. Almost everytime a photo rejected in same place is acepted in other so i don´t worry for that.
But the truth is that i hate keywording and it would be lot easier for me if spanish keywords were aceppted!

It doesn't work for me either (using Exifer).
