Title: Do you use the same keywords and description for images that are very similar?
Post by: waitingonthestuff on August 31, 2023, 17:01
If you have, say, 10 images that are almost the same, but not quite,do you use the same keywords and description for all of them?
Or do you have entirely different keywords and description even though they almost look identical?

Keywords yes, for descriptions I use variations.

All the same, copy paste on Microstock +, i spend about 10 minutes a week gor uploading 25 images to 8 agencies, no issues with sales.

same here - using LR to add meta, trying to find individual desc for a dozen+ images is tedious &H  and worth the tro
uble for pennies.  i often get multiple images from that series

It is actually strongly adviced to NOT use the exact same keywords for all of the images and this decreases their indexability. Yuri Arcurs was advising to use about half of the keywords the same and others - different. That is if you want to earn more money, if you want just to finish keywording faster, then I guess it's fine.

advised by whom? is that a review for your product?  many images need 10-20 tags, and all highly relevant, so should we add different spam tags to make them different? and how do we know anything about how each agency does their indexing?

That was exactly my thought. If I have two images that are very similar and I want to tag them with accurate keywords how am I supposed to make 50/50 different keywords for both? It would mean that I have to leave away relevant keywords for one image and/or add irrelevant to the other image. I don't really see how this could work a different way.

Yuri Arcurs is not your guide, he's your competition. (and you're his)

Of course it's in his interest to suggest something that will take away from the time you're productive, such as changing 50% of keywords on images that are similar. :D

I don‘t understand why having the same keywords is a problem as long as titles and descriptions are meaningfully different and suitable for the image.

But since Adobe makes ranking keywords important, perhaps changing the rank of some words could introduce variation.

Overall though, how many similars are you planning to upload? If you upload 60 near identical files at the same time, they will of course compete with each other and prevent that one of them becomes an individual bestseller.

If you just upload 2-4 every few weeks and make sure they complement each other and cannot replace each other - one horizontal, one vertical, one close up, one top view or a very wide angle shot of the scene…something you would use to illustrate an article about the subject together.

Then why would it matter if the keywords are similar?

I mean I have no idea how the Adobe algos work, but humans are overwhelmed with 60 near identical images.

The buyers are more important than all algos, they are basically the real intelligence that is „programming“ search results with their downloads and lightboxing of files.

Same. For dreamstime and shutterstock/adobe I use different though. I just use the same tags inside the sites.
