Title: dreamstime better than fotolia
Post by: OxfordSquare on December 08, 2010, 08:23
Hi,

first time I have seen dreamstime before fotolia (poll results).
Not bad  :)

I hope it continues and moves up one more spot, at least.

wow, yeah - quite surprising.

for me, Dreamstime is still only 50% of what Fotolia gives me but I'm all for Dreamstime moving up as they give better % and I really like their image level system.

Certanly not because my votes, since DT is only about 1/3 of what FT makes for me.

FT is way ahead of DT for me.  Perhaps FT does better in Europe?

I think unless you joined in 2007 and before, Fotolia will not be as successful for newcomers. The canister are very important to get a good payback at FT.

I remember getting a lousy 0.33 per credits back when I was independent, while it was way easier to get better image levels at DT. I think this is what the MSG Poll might show right now .

Ah the good old days of .33 Vonkara.  I'm silver and it went down to .31.

Almost all of my sales at FT are by 10AM so I think they definitely sell more in Europe.

DT and FT were tracking at the same level for me until early this year, when DT began to decline and FT began a slow climb.  So far this month DT is running at half of FT.  I suspect it's because of DT's policy regarding similars.  Multiple poses of the same model do okay for me on other sites, and might do at DT if they didn't reject them out of hand.

Yes I noticed they were selling in Europe also, back when we could see who bought our images. The problem when you are a low canister, is you can't change your prices. I was getting 1.60$ if I remember correctly for a XL size

I've always done better at DT than FT and the gap is getting wider. DT is now my second best microstock earner, mostly because of higher level images.

+1, love seeing 1.05 for a sub sale

BTW, can anybody explain to me why a purchase for the same amount of credits (2010) on the same level of image, gives me diferent amounts of earnings?
Iīm guessing is because the packs credits or so, when the cost per credit is cheaper when you buy more is that right? If thatīs the case, i wonder how can they know how much the credits cost for an especific buyer on a spec buy, it can be a mess, a buyer can have several credits bought on different packs for diferent amounts.  ???

DT is much better for my type of images than FT. More sales + higher per image earnings. It seems like DT is increasingly pulling away from FT for me. I've been on both for 5+ years.

I promote DT whole the time...Triple much than others...  They have better deal with us than IS, FT etc.

I'm still having rejection problems with DT, they rejected one yesterday that's accepted everywhere else and sells.  I just don't get on with them anymore, such a shame their the only big site that finds some of my best images "not quite what were looking for".  What I find most annoying is that they accept landscapes that don't sell as well.  I'm going to have to query every time they reject something that I think is going to sell or its going to cost me money in the long term.

I like a lot all DT style but have a lot of rejections lately also..

Pointless exercise, it just goes back to the original reviewer.

That is so true...those reviewers usually defend their decisions.

I dropped Fotolia quite awhile ago and that being because they were always at the bottom for me. I really think it depends are where you photograph as to your success there. Europe isn't my place.

Much as DT annoys me with their similars rejections, they have moved ahead of FT for me in the past quarter even though I have 33% more files at FT

It used to work for me but after the reply to my email, I see its pointless now.  I'm just going to stop uploading there, my sales are going in the wrong direction with DT and I will spend more time on the sites that I do better with.
