I am deciding whether to add a drone to my gear but I'd like a little feedback on what is involved with getting the license.
I downloaded an 88 page study guide - I have to pay $175, register, find a testing location and score better than 70% on the test.
TSA background checks, retesting every 24 months (free? $175? on-line?)
I guess my question is, is it worth it?

Unless something has changed since I got mine, if you plan to sell the photos for any reason, Part 107 is required. Without Part 107, you are limited to recreational use only.
Retesting/renewal used to be in-person only at a test center but now can be done online.

Recurring test is now free and online but the initial test is still in-person and timed. https://www.peltierphotocourses.com/pages/schedule-part-107-remote-pilot-test. (https://www.peltierphotocourses.com/pages/schedule-part-107-remote-pilot-test.) Even non-107 recreational flyers are now required to test, too. "Note: Federal law requires all recreational flyers to pass an aeronautical knowledge and safety test. The FAA developed The Recreational UAS Safety Test (TRUST) to meet this requirement." https://www.faa.gov/uas/recreational_flyers/knowledge_test_updates. (https://www.faa.gov/uas/recreational_flyers/knowledge_test_updates.) But it's easy and they don't let you fail it. More of a basic safety overview.
