Title: ebook cover license question
Post by: farbled on March 07, 2018, 21:54
Ok here is what I need to find out. I am in the process of writing a novel. It is not young adult, but the main character is a teen. The image I wish to use in the book cover is of a young "tween" age girl. The book is not romance or anything spicy, but there is violence and some explicit scenes in the book that happen to other characters. I found the right image on Adobe but I am unsure if the subject matter of my book would violate any sensitive use of the photo. I cannot find the photo on SS where there is a sensitive use license and Adobe doesnt have much info on this that I could find that would definitively cover my butt legally. Any thoughts?

Use a hand-drawn illo instead.

If possible, you could try to contact the person who made the image and offer to buy the license you need direct from him/her.

My son is on a book about serial killers (shucks... so proud LOL).  Bigstock gave them my contact information (unless it's in my profile, I don't know) and they called for special permission from "the model's parents".  I wrote up a little contract for 10000 copies. I'd suggest you contact her directly to request permission from the actual parent and then do a side deal with her.

Not a bad idea at all. Thanks!
