Hello fellow photographers,
I started 1,5 year ago to add much editorial photos. I am not talking about news related photos but more life conected. Like street views, products in context, stores and shopes, industrial objects and so on.
I notice that my editorial sales outnumbered by far my commercial ones while my editorial part of port is only 30%. Or editorial is growing like crazy or my commercial photos are that bad ;D.
I think the time has come that every agency should have a editorial section or otherwise you are missing sales.
Do you also have the same feeling?

I started recently about 2 months ago in stockphoto so I'm not really sure about general trends, specially considering that we are talking about a market of tens of millions of pictures.
As my job takes me to political elections in developping countries I started uploading both editorial content (portraits, campaign rallies and street scenes) and landscapes/monuments. So far, only these editorial shots are selling, maybe, and that's just my 2 cents, the commercial area is really saturated with thousands and thousands of pictures in every area/topic.

In my country all of the major news related medias are clients of stock. None of them (as I know) have a subscription with Fotolia because they don't have a picture of Obama or some other thing that can not be anything but editorial.

I'm not really seeing a lot of what I would consider "editorial" in your DP or Fotolia links (some of the others aren't working). A lot of what I'm seeing is "plop and shoot". Drop a cookie on a table, and take a shot. Here's a cup of juice. Etc. No products in context, really. So I'm not sure what you're thinking "commercial" vs. "editorial"...

and I'm also seeing a lot of "plop and shoot"... unfortunately I believe to produce the kind of images you'll need to realize strong, consistent sales would require you to find a group of fairly nice looking models to work either for free OR for pennies on the dollar in order to get a decent return on your investment (in my opinion).

Ok. I it is going off topic. I would open an other thread if i would like to know how salable my images are. I am not as talented as you are. I maybe don’t have mega outstanding photos and i don’t earn thousands of dollars but I am happy with my returns… otherwise I would be stupid to go on and loose time.
Anyway I am just curious how you experience your editorial sales. If they also are growing.
