Title: Email from Pocketstock
Post by: takestock on November 02, 2012, 05:42
Just got an email this morning looking for artists to contribute with a special rate on royalties offered.
Had a quick look into their site but the quality of images doesn't seem all that great.
Any takers on this?

I received an email from them yesterday.  When I checked out their site, I found several of my photos there!  Does anyone know of any partnerships with Pocketstock?  I can't find a way to see all of my photos in one place so I don't know how many are out there, but at least two of my top sellers are there...in their Compass Collection.

How did my photos get on their site without my help!  The ones I've seen seem to have come from more than one place and I haven't uploaded anything to them.

Are you on Veer? Pocketstock is one of their partners if I remember correctly. Regards, David.

Thank you for responding, David!  I am on Veer.  Veer is partnered with Pocketstock.com.mx (I think the mx is correct) and I've read that it is a different company.  I checked their website and I couldn't read anything on it so I don't know where it is located.

I wrote to Pocketstock.com yesterday and had a message today from a gal who is new and said she would check with her manager since she had no idea what was going on.  Her honesty was appreciated!  Still waiting for an answer though...

Sue - Veer appear to be partnered with both the Mexico site called Pocketstock and the new UK site with the same name  (just to keep things simple!). I'm pretty sure my images on the UK site are from Veer -the file numbers are all prefaced by VE. In the thread (linked below) Trek says (post 4) that he found his files there with his Veer only user name. Regards, David.

Oh Sh*t really? I had the worst RPD of all the sites I'm on with Pocketstock (from the very few sales I've had there). I hate to think what I'll be getting once Veer has also taken a slice. Tell me there's a way to opt out of third party sales on Veer please!!!

David - Thank you once again for your input!

I have found more of my photos on Pocketstock and the numbers do begin with VE.  The ones I've checked have been in the "Compass Collection" which charges more for the photos...$2.00 for Xsmall, $5.00 for small, etc.  My Veer sales do not show anything that indicates they are from Pocketstock.  Either they aren't going to tell us where the sales are from, they aren't paying us, or there haven't been any sales.  Given the rate at which I have sales on Veer, the latter is extremely likely.

The other clue for Veer is the keywords.  I should have figured that out right away except I didn't realize how many Veer adds to what I submit.

Microbius - I just clicked everything I could find to click on Veer and could not find an opt out option.  If you or anyone else finds one, I'd love to know where it is.

Thanks to those who responded to my queries!  I truly appreciate all the input!

Just to be clear, Pocketstock.com.mx is a Veer Partner - not pocketstock.com.

Have a look at a couple of recent threads about Veer and partner sales - that you can't opt out  (http://www.microstockgroup.com/veer-marketplace/how-to-opt-out-of-3rd-party-sales-in-veer/)and the train wreck of the Alamy Creativity  (http://www.microstockgroup.com/veer-marketplace/your-veer-portfolio-on-alamy/)partnership which they dropped after they were caught doing it and MSG contributors screamed loudly.

Since the Alamy stuff was pulled, Veer hasn't communicated with contributors about anything, so there has been nothing more on (a) reporting of partner sales (b) consulting/offering an opt out for contributors who wish to and (c) payment rates (it seems that they want to give you the standard Veer royalty, pocketing any extra themselves, but there is very little written about this).

I stopped uploading there when the Alamy incident occurred, thinking I'd wait to see what they said about partner sales. Nada

As I don't want to compete with myself and collect lower royalty payments, I'm not thrilled about any of these

Did you know about the thread with the list of partnerships (http://www.microstockgroup.com/general-stock-discussion/a-list-of-partner-programs/)?

Thank you for that, from Newsfocus1's post I though both Pocketstocks were partnered with Veer.
If Pocketstock.com isn't, that's a great relief!

Still very disturbing to see that a site that used to be so engaged with contributors has decided to back away from communication.

Here's a link (I hope) to Veers list of API partners - both PSmx and PS.com are listed. Regards, David.

Thanks David, you got a heart from me!
That clears it up.

Your welcome! Sorry, should have posted that link in the first place - I guess everyone's getting a bit confused when there are two sites with the same (rather odd) name. Regards, David

You're right - I am confused and thanks for the list from Veer's site.

I have my images on Pocketstock.com - placed there by me with their help - and I also have images on Veer (only 800+ of my portfolio). I did a search for images that are on Veer I see only one copy, so somehow there are no duplicates - or they didn't include the "cheap" Veer stuff in the deal.

I would point you to the FAQ that says we only get paid what our regular Veer royalty would be (http://www.veer.com/more/contributor/faq/royalties-payments/what-is-the-royalty-structure-for-images-sold-through-veer%E2%80%99s-api/) when a partner makes a sale. That's the element of their partner deals that I find so objectionable.
