Hi,

New to this site but not that new to shooting video, most of what I have on Pond5 is weather related, events, on campus stuff and well...you can browse the collections and everything else at the links below. Most of it was shot for the news an a lot of it is branded editorial.   My question is how to get my Pond5 page under the nose of as many customers as possible?  Is there a spot for that here? another site?, been using a bit of social media ,mostly Twitter, but I see others are using YouTube, some getting traction and coming up on the front page of Google, others not.

Just want to make sure as many customers as possible from lower budget to higher budget see the work and they can browse and hopefully buy something, or maybe not but the agencies can only do so much, I need to do my part and that's what I am stuff on right now.

You've all probably read about how sales are down right now as well, even more reason to step up the game with some promotion and surprisingly a lot of customers search via Google or other means to find footage.

... but the agencies can only do so much, I need to do my part ...

The agencies take a huge cut (Pond5 takes 50%), and that is mainly because it is their job to find the buyers.
If you think you need to do that yourself, put your videos on your own site and promote that. And keep 100%.

If they all just sold it would be kinda nice but it is mostly severe weather stuff so someone has to be looking for that type of content and on Pond5, same with all my on-campus stuff, it's a niche area which is good, 24,000 and counting.

I guess but market and Google algorithms change, sales are down everywhere and if I can help bring in my own traffic it's good for me and good for Pond5 as well, when we sell then make money as well, and even other artists, customer might not like my content but might see something else, need to keep the site healthy.

As for putting some stuff on my own site, at least the stuff that's not branded editorial ,I have thought about it, not sure how to code a website and how to get it ranked on the front page of Google, it's a lot more involved than I thought and I don't have the time to take the courses and learn web dev and SEO.

Looking over at the right side of the screen I see there are only a few agencies left that perform sales wise and SS is not interested at all in the type of content I have so it's Pond 5 or a direct sell to a client but that hasn't come my way yet.

What does your download pattern look like over the last year (per month)? 50 a month trending to 10? Just trying to get some scale on why you believe that additional promotion is needed. P5 takes 50% of the revenue, as per the above post.  Your port seems more specialized around weather. So I think a decline would be more noticeable for you compared to someone with 24k clips of a very broad subject matter. Just curious as I get more into video.

Not sure of exact numbers right now but like so many others even the clip views have slowed, this week was a bit better, I have maybe three niche areas, weather/severe weather/ storm damage,  on-campus/students/frosh activities/events,  and there there are things like marathons, traffic congestion, construction etc, it's what I have from shooting news.

You are right, if I had 24, 000 clips of a more broad range I might sell more but I don't have that yet, right now I just want to get what I have under the nose of everyone who buys video, what I have does sell, just not in the massive volumes I need right now.

If it wasn't for Pond5 I wold be screwed, what I have is selling slowly but those other agencies? takes weeks to review and reject 9 out of 10

Another problem now is competing with free, pretty hard to compete with those newer/free/plans sites giving decent stuff away for free, I think that's why sales are down overall right now, my weather and on campus stuff still sells, just had a nice burst of on camps sales this week.  Just have to work every possible means of external promotion in addition to what the agency does for us, not sure what your content is but if it's sort of like mine, a bit more newsy....I'd go with pond 5 first, the other agencies can be a quite tricky when it comes to editorial type stuff.

Like everything else these days, pedal to the floor or not in the game,  just wish my body would still let me pull all-nighters like when I was 18, need to fine tune everything on my Pond5 page and then do all out external promotion, getting your content in front of every possible customer, that's what I want to do.  They can't buy if they don't know I have it.
