After Figmas sellout, its Adobe vs. Canva for dominance in design software
Adobes pending deal to buy Figma would remove a key competitor, making the battle to own the modern design software industry a two-horse race between Adobe and Canva.

Figma established itself as the anti-Adobe. The company even has a webpage dedicated to the superiority of Figmas products. Then, CEO Dylan Field sold out to the sweet tune of $20 billion.

He really had no choice. Adobe was visibly struggling after it misread the market and had to make a desperate bid for growth. And when a company backs up a dump truck of cash that size to your doorstep with reportedly no rival suitors around, no less you say yes.

Now, with Figma set to become an autonomous unit within Adobe one that doesnt even report directly to the CEO and Adobe signaling it will seek to move its products onto Figmas cloud platform, all eyes are on Canva as the biggest roadblock to a total Adobe takeover."

I don't know why Adobe should wipe out all competition and make a "total takeover". They are already arrogant enough as industry-standard for designers. They (and all others) should have competition in order to make more effort to create better products or lower prices or create smaller packages of their software and so on. I was reading something about "anti-trust regulations" at links which JoAnn posted yesterday in my "Adobe acquiring Figma" topic and IMO, that's only good way to have "healthy" market competition, which could benefit users instead of suffer because someone has monopol. What's the point if big companies can just buy all competitors they don't like or see them as risk.
But, that's only my opinion, obviously world is functioning differently.

Is this a joke? Canva is a toy, its market share is insignificant, its user base almost entirely consists of hobbyists, mostly girls.
It's irrelevant in the professional design scene and Adobe likely wouldn't acquire it if it was free.

Figma is mostly used by UX/UI designers, in fact it's the industry standard in the UX field. It can be linked to a plethora of enterprise grade productivity apps, from Slack to Confluence to whatever.

Where did you even get the idea that they might be competitors?

Matter of fact, the more interesting question is, what happens to XD. It's not realistic to think that they'd keep maintaining two very similar apps in their portfolio. They either drop XD, which is the more likely scenario given that XD has fallen way behind Figma in popularity, or they lied about their long term plans and at some point discontinue Figma. Neither scenario would be a surprise.

When you have 100 million active users (not saying that all of them are paying to use the service, anyway that number is huge) and Microsoft trying to copy you... Believe me: there's something going on.

"CANVA NOW HAS FOUR TIMES MORE ACTIVE USERS THAN ADOBE"

"This free, simple design software now has more than 100 million monthly active users. For comparison, its nearly four times more than paying Adobe users."

Impressive numbers:

https://www.similarweb.com/website/canva.com/#overview

The site is the number 1 in its category, 104th global rank, 149th in the US...

Very low bounce rate 29.99% ("as a rule of thumb, a bounce rate in the range of 26 to 40 percent is excellent").

Visitors:
female 55.05%
male 44.95%

Anything that is free will have more users than paid software.

But Adobe is the mighty gorilla of the media market, nobody comes close.

I agree that even if Canva was free, Adobe wouldn't need to buy them.

It is not just girls that use free offers..shame on the sexism, you should really know better.

Adobe is very clever and consistent in how they evolve their products and they have a great relaitionship with their customers. And they give us a fair deal as media producers.

The Canva founders made their billions, maybe know they are looking to hand it over to someone else. For Microsoft it could be a useful add on.

Really? Maybe they have great relationships with customers on social media, but their support never fails to drive me crazy. And I absolutely hate their policy to not sell all their products in all countries through their website, in some countries is only possible to buy from resellers for much higher price. Maybe someone from USA is not aware of that problem, but it really complicates lives of people who want and need to buy their software and live in "wrong" country.
