Title: Facebook offers to sell your stock photos
Post by: Jonathan Ross on November 25, 2014, 13:08
Hi All,

I got a message from Facebook yesterday that they would like to offer me the opportunity to sell my stock content through Facebook. They have also partnered with Shutterstock to be able to use SS content in adds. I disregarded the message and now wish I had copied it as many are asking me what is going on. I was wondering who else might have gotten the same message and what do you think about their offer? Here is a link I found on Google explaining some of the news. http://techcrunch.com/2013/08/22/facebook-shutterstock/ (http://techcrunch.com/2013/08/22/facebook-shutterstock/)

Thanks,
J

I've been selling via Shutterstock for a year+ but have not received anything from Facebook directly (but then I don't have a business page there, just a personal one). Do you remember what they offered you for money if you sold through them?

Hi Jo Ann,

No, I should have copied the page but I just deleted it. I have another friend on FB that got it today as well. I will see if they saved it. The link I added to this doesn't speak of the new deal I posted the wrong link. I will look for more on the story and see if any friends saved the page.

Cheers,
J

may still be worth a try -- if not for the direct selling portion then at least for adding some social media "momentum" to overall SEO and marketing efforts elsewhere.

Interesting - would love to know the details. Thanks for sharing what you can.

EDIT: Ooooops! Didn't realize this was an old thread! It popped up today.

But what about the FB user agreements? FB claimed the right to use any uploaded content for its own purposes. I would never upload any picture in full resolution and without watermark to FB!

I am rather sure what Jonathan saw was actually an advertisement by Shopify - it's a generic shopping app that is based on the Facebook platform that can be used to sell different products. They have a targeted ad for photographers with "sell your photos on Facebook" ads since last year.

Has anyone tried shopify?
FB is such a huge platform I wonder if it works.

I'm guessing it would work about as good as any direct sales platform you set up ... which is not that good unless you put a lot of work into it.  WooCommerce also has a plug-in to sell stuff on Facebook.  I'm guessing most people would simply prefer to purchase their 'stuff'on the website itself.

correct, @Leaf -- one really doesn't need Shopify for it (nor pay a monthly Shopify subscription fee) if one goes for the Plugin with WP.
