Wow - do I get to start this month!

My February was pretty good, but not great. I had a great start with 3 enhanced licenses on Shutterstock in the first week, but that was it for the month. It maintained its average of about one Enhanced for 200 downloads - I had 3 for 700 overall downloads in the month. iStock was pretty good though, with one ED in the last week. Seems like months since I had one of those.

Here are the graphs - more details as normal on my blog:

In February 2012 I had nearly the same download numbers as February 2011,
but the RPD goes down, cause of commision cuts at fotolia and is and selling more at ss and less at is.

Only vectors and a handful new illustrations.

A so-so month for us as IS exclusives (2nd BME).
No EL's this month.
128% better then 02/2011
-13% from last month (before PP for Feb).
Just shy of 500 downloads and just over 2K earned.

Portfolio still growing but downloads haven't moved for 6 months now!

1. Shutterstock
2. Istock
3. 123RF
4. DT

All up from last month.  The only one of the official big four that was down from last month was Fotolia - for me they came in fifth.

February is always a tricky month for making comparisons, and this year is especially tricky because it was a leap year.  We have to keep in mind that comparing Jan to Feb 2012, we're comparing 31 to 29 days.  For that reason, my  Feb 2012 grand total was a bit down from Jan 2012 (my previous BME), but the daily average was up 4%.  In that sense, I can declare Feb 2012 my BME.

Also keeping in mind that Feb 2012 had 29 days vs. Feb 2011's 28 days, my year-over-year grand total comparison enjoyed an extra boost, so again I turn to daily average for a more apples-to-apples view.  My avg daily income for Feb 2012 rose 65% vs Feb 2011.

All good signs heading into March, which is always one the best of if not THE best month of the year (at least for me).  Sales will take a significant dive in April, then slowly claw their way back from May to Aug, and I don't expect to see a big gain again until Sept, if historical trends hold true.

But remember that varying days in early Jan are a holiday in most significant buying countries, so it's more equal than you suggest.

Overall I was 5% down compared to Feb 2011 however the changes in fortune of the various agencies is the telling statistic for me;

SS  +40%
IS   -17%
FT  -41%
DT  -31%
BigStock +31%

iStock: A bit better than last months, still pretty bad
SS: Best month ever! (even on a month with only 29 days!). Almost more than my BME at IS.
DT: Okay month. Not good, not bad.
FT: Lowest since april 2008. They have dropped from my #3 site to #6 (123rf earns me more nowdays!)
Veer: Okay month. Not good, not bad.
123rf: Best month ever!

Overall an okay month, about 12% (with estimated PP sales) more than last years march, but with about 25% more images)

Excellent month overall for me - up 350% from last year due to multiple ELs and a nice sale on Alamy.  I'm sure it's a statistical anomaly but I'll take it when I can get it.  By Agency:

#1 SS: BME for DLs and $$$, almost 2x better than previous BME, which was last month.
#2 Alamy: BME.  One large sale put it in 2nd place.  Definitely need to increase my uploads there.  Was expecting no sales with my small portfolio there so to get one was a nice surprise - wish I had started with them from the beginning.
#3 iS: One large EL kept it in 3rd place.  Regular sales were OK, on par with DT and 123.  For the first three years they were #1 by far, now they usually fight it out for a distant 2nd place.
#4 123: BME for DLs but not $$$.  Trend is still up.
#5 DT: BME for DLs but not $$$.  Very close to 123.
#6 FT: BME for DLs and $$$.  Hopefully this indicates an upward trend.
#7 CS: Tied my BME for DLs but not $$$.
#8 DP: BME for DLs and $$$.  Almost all subs so lowest RPDL of all agencies.  Nice upward trend.
The rest: Small sales on minor sites.  Big and Veer lower than last year, slow trickle on Crestock.  Still some sales on StockXpert.  No sales on two sites (won't bother to name them).

Portfolio growth has been modest - too busy at my real job - so I hope this indicates that the economy is turning around and things are looking up.

BME. BME at many agencies, IS, CS (insignificant contribution to the overall earnings, but still), FT. 2nd BME at SS, if I had one more day of sales it would be a BME. DT was pathetic, mid tier agencies remain pathetic (I mentioned BME at CS though) and I don't even bother with the low tier agencies.

Well, I'm up a whopping 1% from a fairly lackluster January, and up 1% from Feb. 2011.  At least the trend is going in the right direction...

As usual, Gostwyck, you and I have very similar percentages from each site.  Up or down % from last year in parentheses.

ISP   28% (-23%)
SS   25% (+36%)
DT   14% (+17%)
Fot   11% (-34%)
Big   5%  (+30%)
123   3%
Can   2%
Alm   6%

I'm 1% up from Jan as well - but considering Feb has only 29 days... it's more like 8% up actually.

how do you calculate iS earnings?  Are we supposed to include TS earnings from PP and from StockXpert?  Aren't those earnings from previous month?  WHERE do you pull those figures from?

Definitely my best Feb so far.  January was pretty good too so I hope this is an indication of a better year for us.

Istock didn't even suck as bad as I expected.  The rest are each under 5% so didn't mention, FT just gets worse and worse and worse.

SS  29%
DT  22%
Veer 18%
IS  14%

You are absolutely correct - the way I get round it is to make an estimate (low balling it a bit) of what the PP earnings are going to be in February. I then report that. In my internal system I eventually correct that estimate by inserting the correct earnings amount when it finally becomes available, and so my graphs are automatically corrected at that stage.

Is that the New Maths?
(Even not accounting for the holidays at the beginning of Jan.)
