Not surprising. Their ancillary reach on the web casts a wide net.

That's smart.  I didn't realize there was a use (or an ability to) for things downloaded to an iPad.  Forgot they were in STL as well.

never thought i'd contribute to gl, but now there's an incentive. even though the ipad is not a big market right now, it certainly has potential. it's great they've made it ipad compatible so you can download directly rather than go through the mac interface via the hub (a huge pain).

I'm really satisfied with gl, got my first payment 2 months after signing up... not bad comparing to crestock, yay, depositphotos and even 123rf.... if they keep growing, it could be an important agency

interesting move. I wonder if the other agencies will follow. The good side of being relatively a small company is you can react quickly to new markets like this.

Sorry to go off topic but am i the only one that doesn't like the name graphic leftovers? It just doesn't feel professional enough. I get why they named it that way but i create vectors specifically for microstock  and believe many others do to. I don't contribute vectors that a client wasn't satisfied with and it leaves an impression that its something to do on the side to make some pocket change.

it's nice to see them innovating.  I think an app that lets people download wallpaper backgrounds, which essentially this does, could be a very popular program.

I think that even if it doens't make a huge difference in sales, it's cool to inovate and be the first one to offer this kind of service

Hopefully the other micros will follow suit shortly so those of us who do photos will be able to take advantage of the new market too :)

Wow, am I out of touch or what!
I thought I understood all the hoopla about iPad. At least enough to decide it wasn't for me. But what's all this about being able to download images for the iPad? I thought with web access they could go to any site and get images. ??? Or maybe this "first agency" is like a separate web site accessible only from iPads??
I still don't get it after I read the links above.

Hi louoates,

To answer your first question, the iPad can view most sites out there on the internet, with the exception of websites built in flash or websites that have flash tightly integrated into their design. The iPad also doesn't have a "file system" like your desktop computer, so if you go to any stock image site and want to purchase an image, you won't be able to download the file because they are most likely in .zip format. You also can't open vectors in EPS or SVG format on an iPad (yet). Basically, you can only download a few types of files from the internet on an iPad, JPEGs being one of them.

With our GL4iPad site, we designed it from the ground up just for iPad. The design and content are stripped down somewhat and the pages were built in HTML5 and CSS3 to make the experience a lot faster than browsing the normal "desktop" version of the website. When browsing with an iPad, you won't see vector files since they can't be opened or edited on the iPad, and when you purchase a JPEG, the website will prepare the file for you by unzipping it and providing simple instructions to download to your "Photos" folder.

With the new platform growing like crazy and apps like Keynote, Pages and Wordpress becoming really popular, iPad owners are using the new device to produce content like presentations, documents and blog posts for their business. We wanted to cater to this market by providing professional graphics and photos to these content producers with an affordable and easy-to-use resource that was built just for them.

Thanks danoph,
now I see what it's all about. Thankfully, I still have no need for the iPad.

Thankfully, I still have no need for the iPad.
I have one already for years. It has a keyboard, a hard disk, USB ports and it can render flash. I think it's called a laptop;)
On topic, I can see a way an iPad can be useful for sales. On the road or waiting out of the office, a customer can browse at his ease through all the offerings and spend time searching in a more relaxed way. He can enter the candidates in a lightbox and then have a closer look or download the lightbox later back in the office.

I can't understand why iPad users need special applications for every task! We (PC users) can visit every possible website on earth with a browser ;D

however every new sales channel is good!

Funny seeing people queuing through the night to get their ipads in the UK.  Good luck to GL, I hope there are PC pads out soon with USB ports, webcams etc. at a lower price.  I might be interested then.
