Five years ago on April Fools / Good Friday I was cut from my job. Even when stock drives me crazy I am blessed to have had so much time with my family! Here is to another five years ;D

Congrats! Sounds like the fools were the ones that fire you. Glad you made a success of it and wishing you much more in future.

Congrats! I remember when you posted about this on the istock forum 5 years ago :) Things always happen for a reason. Best of luck on the next 5!

Thanks Daniel and the rest of you! Time with the family, do what I love, meet new people. Can it get any better?

five years ago i started shooting for iStock while running my graphic design firm. last year i closed the corporation and retired to coastal northern california with a nice steady income (less than 2012 but still fine) and now enjoying life in the redwoods shooting stock and video stock and fine art photos. bought a nice rustic home for cash, paid off alimony and now debt free.

Congrats! I started five years and 3 months ago after I was fired and even as I work more and earn less than before I don't regret it.
-
Congrats!
I left my day job 7 years ago, in the meantime I visited 50 countries and lived with a backpack on my shoulder (and a camera in my hands) for at least 5 years in total.
That's life!
Keep on uploading! :D

Same here.
5 years ago the boss took off with the payroll and all of a sudden I was over qualified, over weight and over 50.
Picked up my camera learned some photoshop skills and never looked back. I think now it might have been the best thing to happen to me in a long time.
I took up cave photography and birding by kayak and have lost almost 100 lbs. I have learned to be braver and how to get myself in and out and up and down on a rope!
I've been able to spend the last best years with my grandma's (Both are 90) and the new first best years with my grandchildren.
I'm a tourist in my own state and country and am getting paid for it. (I don't need a lot :) )
For all the grumbling we do, it's still the best gig around.
Happy Trails everyone!

That's great to hear John. I'm nearly 6 years full time now and I love it too. The freedom in lifestyle just can't be beat.

Thanks John for posting this thread. It is so refreshing to hear something positive in this forum and the ensuing happy stories that follow. I too have been full time shooting stock for many years.
Ginger... Go girl go.

I love this job, I love the photography and the freedom to do what i love.
To me this is the best described in one Confucius quote: "Choose a job you love, and you will never have to work a day in your life."
P.S. This is the best MSG post :)

And ask yourself, when was the last time a message got 40 plus / agree like this? At least there's still some hope for the self sufficient, working individuals, like so many people here. It's not easy but independence based on ones own initiative is a welcome reward.
