What do you think is the best image shape for Photos and graphics  ---Square , oblong,  landscape or portrate.
Which shape is best for microstock

It all depends on the image, no?

Square images get larger thumbnails, so are possibly noticed more.

Study composition a bit and you will be able to answer your own question..... have fun!

Incomplete questions yes, but not stupid ones

i think it was a valid question.  And as mentioned it would obviously depend lots on the image, but if one is setting up a composition one coudl set it up so that it worked for a certain format.

I would say the best format would be the one purchased most often, or the one that a site needs 'more' of.  I have heard once that vertical shots are good because that is the format that magazines use (perhaps also net articles) and most images are landscape format so there is a shortage of good vertical shots...... but this is just a hypothesis

I try to shoot both vertical and horizontal shapes of the same subject. In my best sellers the horizontal almost always outsells the vertical of the same subject. I read an article last summer about how designers favor horizontals because of the stress on the TV high definition size ratios. Seems that this carries over into the images they are buying for print, web, etc.
