Title: Fotolia Watermark
Post by: Digital66 on July 31, 2009, 01:53
I have sent this message to Fotolia:

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Dear Fotolia,

I am seriously concerned about the effectiveness of the current watermak against image theft.

This problem affects us all: the company, image buyers, and image producers.

We urgently need a more effective watermark to be better protected against the unscrupulous people who visit Fotolia with the only intention to steal images.

Thank you in advance for your prompt attention to this matter.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

If you are also concerned about the Fotolis watermak, please feel free to copy my message, connect to your account at Fotolia, go to Contact Support and send it (you may add your own words or send a different message of course)

The more of us express our concern on this issue the more chances we have to get results...

Let's protect our work!

Won't work!

They intentionally want to keep thieves around so when they decide they can't remove it, they might have to buy it!

I am always confused at how reputable stock site(s)  spend so much money to get their business running only to ignore the need of a theft deterrent watermark.
This would be like spending tons of money on the most expensive burglar alarm to your mansion or Ferrari, and then leave your mansion's  or Ferrari's key hanging on the latch.

Go figure !

Yeah! The first thief passing by will take the keys!  I just can't understand it.

Even someone without experience in image-editing can delete the Fotolia "watermark".

I think it was two years ago that they changed their watermark to this and it was something they could correct.  I think the excuse was the launch of V2 and all the problems associated with it, but the subject has been brought again later and no action was taken. They just don't care.
