Giving away content makes little sense?

In reality I think you just create a much greater risk for piracy with people downloading those illustrations and later selling them as their own. I've seen it happen hundreds of times...

It happened to me when I decided to do a little free experiment. Very annoying to see my stuff pop up on the very same sites I sell on, effectively stealing business. So free really backfired...

And to be honest, I don't think illustrations are high up on the list of things that someone who is struggling to pay rent needs to get...

You are already selling image at shutter and other agencies. https://www.shutterstock.com/g/threedlabs
It seems some sort of promotion plan.

If they're a pirate, there's no incentive to pay you if you give it to them.  People who are really struggling probably don't need digital illustrations.

There are people who can't afford to buy a lot of things.  That doesn't mean they get them.

Do what you want. You asked for genuine replies and you received them.  :)

If your goal is to help poor people I think there are more effective ways than to give away digital illustrations though...

I wonder why people keep coming here, a microstock forum for microstock photographers and illustrators who are selling their work, wanting to give things away. Most people here are not going to be supportive because we are trying to sell things.

Wouldn't going to a graphic design site, deviantArt, those types of forums make better sense? Just an idea. Or are you really just dropping your URL to help with your SEO?

I do sell things at reasonable prices . and i would love to help apart with small resolution illustration to give away free  to turn a pirate to a genuine buyer . this would help to make the whole world a better place to :)

First, I don't think there's any evidence that you can turn a pirate into a buyer by giving away some items.

Second, there are many agency sites that offer some free content, and many other sites that offer a whole collection of free (with a license; I'm not talking about pirate sites) items. So if giving things away turned pirates into buyers, the problem would already be solved.

If a charity for a cause I strongly supported approached me asking for a donation in the form of one of my images, I'd absolutely consider a donation. But if some business, however small, just wants to boost their bottom line instead of mine, I'm not sure why I'd help them do that

This is how you turn a pirate into a buyer:

You have a product that you cannot find for free anywhere.

thanks jo ann snover for reply . but for a aspiring designer he/she would really help from our illustrations and this could help them  less distracted of certain other things  and make better designs,  and we all are making images to help each other communicate with ease  .
