Title: Free Money? What am I missing here?
Post by: chrismathews on May 19, 2006, 09:21
Ok, I am confused? Someone clear this up for me...

At Shutterstock they have a deal for the customer as follows:

$139.00/ per month for 25 downloads a day

This adds up to 750 downloads per month.

So lets say my girlfriend signed up for this deal and put all 750 of her downloads into my images...this would give me...

750 x $.25 = $187.50

hmm...what am I missing here?

The information here is telling me I could invest $139.00 every month and receive $187.50, that is a difference of $48.50!!!

So for a little of my effort, I could get almost $50 a month for FREE!!!!

...there has to be a catch!

Until you're found out by Shutterstock (someone downloading just your pics every day for a month is going to be extremely obvious) and then you get banned. That's what you're missing.

Shutterstock work on the basis that someone with a subscription is not going to download their complement of images every day of the month. People don't usually work seven days a week and if they do, can't spend the time choosing the images and downloading them.

but how do they make money if the payout they give exceeds how much they are charging to customers?

they know that the average customer downloads say for example 1/2 of their limit, which gives them a good profit.  They have enough images and enough customers to determine an accurate average.  Obviously the customer who is online everyday downloading 25 images is going to get a lot more fortheir money than the user who is only downloading images a couple times a week.

Most people take weekends and holidays so there would be no downloads on those days, unles you shared your subscription with someone (is that allowed??).

I think that explains why we dont get a higher payout from them but remember they just increased from 20c to 25 cents so they must have worked out that they make money on that amount.

Plus - I think what you suggest would be a banning offense.
