Title: From individual to self employed
Post by: Lavender on July 18, 2016, 13:29
Hi,

I am individual but probably I would like to continue stock photography as self employed in the future (I am living in EU).

What will change after it?
For example,
- shell I announce it to stock agencies?
- shell I send an invoice to agency after getting every payments?
- ETC..

Maybe somebody was in similar situation and share experiences to me.

Thanks for your help!

i would leave it as individual

unless you plan to incorporate and get complicated like having your IRS find you
to ask you to get a tax-number; send advance payment for tax-withheld,etc.

those things are usually for individual who are making alot of money.
or else you will just be making life complicated for yourself.

Uhh, thank you.

Can I stay as individual at stock agencies, if I am self employed in my country? (with a different main activity).

Self employed is individual.

Yeah, in the U.S. individual and self-employed are the same, but it may be different in your country. Either way, it won't change your relationship with the agencies - they don't care and an invoice would confuse them best case.

i think the two recent comments answer your question (ind = self )
but in your country it may be different.
in my country i would be deemed self employed if i was
miss lavender.
and self-employed if i register as
Lavender photography

but for agency purposes, as darylbrooks say,
 it makes no diff.
..ie. unless you have a tax # (not your employment insurance code) but an IRS registration as a business .

best consult your country tax dept. if you're concerned..
as none of us are tax-consultants here (at least not me ). 8)

Yes, in my country (Hungary) is the same: self employed can be individual person who works his/herself. So, it is clear, thank you so much for your answers, helped a lot! :)

sorry typo...
individual would to me be, working part-time
and
self-employed would be if i registered myself as a business
eg. Lavender photography
either way, individual would be fine with microstock.

Well, in most countries it's a requirement to have a business so you can invoice and pay tax correctly unless we're talking very little money. One-man business = individual.
