I am as questioning as anyone else. But presumably we want our pictures to be shared on Pinterest given that it drives so much traffic. And presumably we welcome any efforts to prevent the images from becoming orphaned from where they can be purchased. So isn't this a step in the right direction potentially ?

Also - do we actually expect to be paid anything for our images being shared on Pinterest ? Other stock sites which get it encourage sharing but are not paying anything AFAIK.

I think most people now get that Pinterest is an important part of the social media in terms of driving traffic.  And personally I love it too.

Time will tell whether it is 'traffic' that converts to sales, otherwise I'd rather they weren't there as it's just one more place people can steal pics from.

I wonder how Getty is going to make sure metadata 'sticks' throughout the process. I.e. if a legitimately purchased image is lifted and shared on pinterest, the metadata will only be there if the buyer has kept it there. I've issued takedowns for my iS pics on pinterest which had no way of being traced back to iS, and it'll be interesting to learn how Getty is fixing that.

Our new partnership with Pinterest offers a solution. Getty Images will use our PicScout image recognition technology to identify exclusive Getty Images content on Pinterest. Then, we’ll use our API, Connect, to provide relevant metadata to Pinterest – including Getty Images photo credits, where and when the image was shot and more. We’ll get a photo credit for our images on Pinterest’s site and a link back. Pinterest users get more context and have more fun.

Oh, I read that, but it's such a Dark Art, I didn't really take it on board.  ;D

Have they changed the TOS? How I read them meant that if it was on Pinterest it was free game to use as long as you used it from pinterest so they got the link back. I tried for a few months to put the proper links for some of my images there (linked to IS or nowhere, but no longer there) eventually I gave up because it never worked.

I have a feeling this will not effect me or many others.

"We are beginning this partnership in the next few months focusing on our exclusive Getty Images house content. Down the road, we plan to expand to include iStock exclusive content and other exclusive collections."
