Title: Google Chrome is slow.
Post by: oscarcwilliams on November 21, 2017, 01:27
What other sites are good to use to open your e-mail accounts. I use Google Chrome and lately it has been very slow.  What about (I heard of) Internet Explorer?  Please list others or the one you use that give you good results.  Thanks--Oscar Williams

Firefox was updated recently, completely redesigned and I can tell you that it's blazing fast now, give it a try.

If you have Windows Vista, 8 or 10, you already have a mail app incorporated in the OS, you just have to set it up. For Win 7 you have to download a free microsoft client if I remember correctly.

IE is very spammy, intrusive and consumes a truckload of computer resources IMO. It used to be better long time ago, but I would not recommend using it now.  I only use it for certain Java applications, but it's very task-specific. I second the opinions on Firefox. It is a much better option, and it is comparatively decent and popular. I used to use Opera a while back and it was also pretty good.

Make sure that you don't have a virus infection, otherwise changing a browser won't help.

and if your beef is with Chrome, I've heard that the latest release of Firefox is way faster.

I just updated to Firefox 57. It is faster and does not bog the computer down nearly as much as the earlier versions. But be aware that there are significant changes to the UI and this version breaks many, if not most, of the add-ons that people have installed. Nearly all of mine were...poof...gone and there don't appear to be many alternatives so far. It was disconcerting.

Much gnashing of teeth about this in the forums.

Had the same problem but as I d9n't really have that many add-ons, I managed to replace them all with new compatible ones.
Firefox has a strong following, I'd say add-ons will be updated in no time.

Thunderbird is what I use too, has been for many years, I don't read email online. You can set for pop mail which downloads and leaves on the server for a couple weeks, or IMAP. IMAP just reads your mail from any computer just like the browser does, but it's much easier and faster. Pop you actually download the messages to your computer and can read them any time, online or offline.

Gmail is very good with IMAP using Thunderbird and faster than any browser because it's only looking at the mail, not ads or updates or whatever else people have running in background at the same time. free https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/thunderbird/ (https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/thunderbird/)

I'm on a mac. The current version of Chrome (62.0.3202.94) takes quite a long time to load some web pages and has stutter scrolling problem in Google's image search. Very annoying.

No, I don't report the problem to them. It's a waste of time. I don't think they don't acknowledge the problems. It's likely that small to medium bugs like these will not be fixed.

Switched to Firefox Quantum (57.0). Problem solved.
