Title: Has anyone seen an increase in sales by dropping agencies?
Post by: Wrighty on November 16, 2018, 12:07
When I started out selling video I uploaded all my footage onto seven agencies to see which ones would generate sales. Two years on and I've started dropping a few low performers and now I'm considering dropping even more, maybe bringing it down to just three.

My hope is that it might increase sales on some of my other higher earning (per download) sites.

Has anyone out there been brave enough to drop agencies, that are still performing to some degree, with a hope of pushing sales up elsewhere? And did it work?

I dropped iStock for videos and have seen an increase in revenue for sure.   8)

I got $0.67 for a video on iStock in October. It look to be a bad place to sell video.

Althought it was a not-so-good HD video, still... Some my sold pictures did better

I have been doing stock now for about 13 years . I have been on just about all the agencies out there at one time or another. I have drooped a lot of sites over the years. For me no difference in sales one way or another by dropping them. It just saves me time to not upload on useless sites. I am still not sure if some of these sites  are on the up and up for recording sales. I think after doing this for a while people simply go to a site they are formulary with and buy what they like or need. I do not think people or companies shop around for the best buy or even the best image. My wife at one time bought images for a large DOD contractor. She bought from IStock. Why, because that was the only account her company had to buy stock from.

and if that particular video wasn't on iStock just maybe the buyer would've purchased it on Adobe Stock/Ft and you get $28.

Highly unlikely.  A buyer goes to his favorite site and looks at what is available, then picks the best suited from what he sees.

I would be extremely surprised if more than a small handful of people shop around multiple sites and then choose the best from multiple agencies.

I'm sure there are many customers who search for the lowest price of the chosen videos or images. I did it myself in the past and it's very fast and easy.

I know you mentioned video but for images:

I dropped:

iStock
Zoonar
Yay
Panther

These I stopped uploading to:

Depositphotos
123RF
Canstock
GL

And you know what?

I actually do make more money now though not on SS or Adobe

Then again a single day shoot for corporate clients yields more money than the above agencies do over a few years.

and many don't.....its a complete guess which is better really and I can't see a reliable way of working it out. Too many other variables to know if an increase in sales is because of withdrawing from another  agency.

If I drop all the agencies will I have more sales? That is the question.
