There's different points of view on crypto energy consumption. And I just can't believe this numbers. The subject is forced by Elon Musk, who said that he will not sell Tesla for BTC until it will be mined in a green way. The green way is, obviously, Elon's solar panels. So I wouldn't trust this whole movement at first place.
One more thing that people are missing is that NFTs are moving towards non-mineable cryptos very fast. There are rumors that ETH v2 will be PoS and Tezos, Matic, etc. are popular PoS already. PoS type (Proof of Stake) consumes much less energy than gaming process. I'd say, it's inconspicuous for the environment.

Not sure if you need a self-hosting NFTs. But if you do, it's the same as if you don't - you search for the buyers by yourself in both cases. Marketplaces help very little and good marketplaces are hard (impossible) to reach.
