Title: Have any experience with selling fonts?
Post by: morning.light on February 14, 2013, 19:53
And I'm not talking about vectors, just pictures of alphabet shaped things. I have a few ideas and I want to know if it's worth the trouble. I checked Fotolia and saw that some fonts are selling, some not, but I'm more interested about Shutterstock, Dreamstime and other websites.

it's better if you design phrases/words/badges instead of letters, since they are more usable from a designer perspective, if you are serious about sales I recommend releasing them in vector format not raster.
good luck ;}

Most forms of design elements (fonts included) are much more useful as vectors, and more so as actual font files. Alternatively, if you're looking to sell type with a certain effect, such as letters on fire or something like that, you can try selling PSDs instead, where people can type in the text they want and see the blending modes apply said effects.
