Title: HELP! Anyone Who Has Gotten 1099s from IS and StockXpert, please read this
Post by: cathyslife on February 04, 2010, 16:53
I am right this moment in the middle of TurboTaxing my info over to the govt. In the past, it didn't require federal tax id numbers to be filled in...this time it is. I have one more place to look, but this would be much easier.

If you have a Tax ID number for IS and StockXpert from the 1099, can you sitemail them to me? It would be most appreciated.

Obviously, so how can I enter their Tax ID if they don't give it to me? Called IS...nobody's even bothering to answer the phones.

Never mind, I entered zeros and that seemed to have worked.

I am not an accountant, but...
Why are you reporting it as 1099 income if you don't have a 1099? That's why it's asking for the number. It may kick back from the IRS because you entered an invalid tax ID number. It should be entered as income on a schedule C.

Have you always reported it like this?

I'm guessing IS or StockXpert will not send out a 1099 because they are a Canadian company and their tax laws are different. I checked my 2007 and 2008 tax returns and I have never entered federal id numbers for them (because of the Canadian thing). I am sure it is just a TurboTax issue. I keep track of my earnings on Excel spreadsheets and through Quicken, so I am sure I am reporting the correct amount. That's about all the IRS is worried about.
