Title: Historic images and illustrations as stock
Post by: henryviii on October 26, 2010, 09:46
Does anyone know which microstock agencies accept scans of old illustrations and engravings? I know iStock do, do a search for Victorian London and you'll see some amazing images like this... http://www.istockphoto.com/stock-photo-13376788-victorian-london-houndsditch.php (http://www.istockphoto.com/stock-photo-13376788-victorian-london-houndsditch.php).

I've also seen that fotoliba will sell them as RM rather than RF, see here: http://www.fotolibra.com/about/heritage.php (http://www.fotolibra.com/about/heritage.php).

So, other than iStock and Fotolibra, where can I upload my massive collection of Victorian illustrations?

Thanks  :)

In the big 4, old illustrations are generally accepted by IS and SS. You have to write the sites (in the description or in the reviewer notes) the source of the image. If I remember correctly, the image must be printed before 1884 to get accepted at IS.

And if the images have the artists' signatures or other markings IS doesn't like them!

They certainly wouldn't be my first (or even in my top 50) choice, if you're going to go the RM route why not put them on one of the top macro sites.

Thanks for your help. Fotolibra fascinate me. I get their picture call emails, they certainly seem to get lots of requests from picture buyers.
