Since iStock changed its Asset page, it no longer shows file Download count - which I used to research images and concepts.
Are there other sources for researching image downloads or popularity?

This is a change some of us wish had been instated years ago.
Yeah. Research in this context sounds more like ripoff. Perhaps the OP should try getting creative and coming up with his own concepts.

Agreed. It takes a bit of work to anticipate trends which is probably why OP prefers to see what others are doing.
For example OP, just off the top of my head: How many people didn't know the Olympics were coming up. They happen every 4 years. Anyone who anticipated it months ago and shot a bunch of sports themed images - especially those sports related to popular events, may have cleaned up in the weeks and months leading up to the games. If you wait for others to do the research and then copy what's popular you end up late to the party and get nothing.
Research and be creative and try to be ahead of the trend rather than behind it.
