Title: How a company or team selling images by stock operated?
Post by: whatwolf on August 03, 2014, 21:52
I have been invited by a team which would like to start to produce image-product to sell by agences.
So I want to know to contribute to microstock such as 123rf, fotolia, ss,is and dreamstime as a good start and get a basic income ?
Or we can contribute to GI,stocksy ,corbis after a long-time-Accumulating?
(we got 0 pictrues now. and the diffrent chioce will lead to diffrent plan to make diffrent images.)

I prefer to contribute images to microstck at first step.

So do you have experience about operating a company or a team to product images?
I really needs your help.

Lol, I doubt it's in our interests to train you to train a factory.  Use this thing called 'the internet' to learn.

Small team is a good idea. With such a team you could do all kinds of things, many of them more profitable than stock photos.

There is no RIGHT choice. Depending on your style and skill it could go micro, macro, both, or none.
It is difficult to advise when you don't provide images to even guess where you will fit as photographers.
Maybe try both ways for some months and then choose.

First, with zero pictures in your portfolio you can't start with Getty, Stocksy, Corbis. You would need a portfolio to apply. And * good one.
You need some decent pictures even for Istock and Shutterstock to apply.
The main problem that I see with operating a team is - who owns the pictures? It's best to ask agency like Shutterstock first, what documentation you need for applying as a company not an individual. Therer are very succesful teams on the market, but you need to produce a lot pictures of high quality to succeed.

As with any multi-person startup, plan the divorce before making the business plan. How are the goods and business materials to be split if the cooperative fails. Then plan how the business will operate. Planning the breakup helps define who owns the various assets, photos, furniture, office space, cameras, computers. This will lead to who contributes in what ways to make the cooperative functional. This will help protect from one partner deciding he is carrying all the load and wants to kick out a low contributing member. Decide how that should play out in advance. Then process a few batches of cheaply produced pictures and see how the team works before spending a lot of money.
