Title: How do you keyword?
Post by: Artist on October 08, 2020, 02:23: How do you guys keyword images? I use bridge and it takes lot of time.

Are there any keywording services available? or tools which are good to use?

I always add them in Photoshop when I'm processing though Adobe Bridge is a good tool for adding keywords and descriptions in bulk (for similar themed photos).

As for the words just do your own research and keep commonly used keywords in a word document so they can be copied and pasted.

Sometimes I use keywording tools, Xpiks builtin or ImStocker. Xpiks also supports videos keywording and upload and can export .csv optimized for every agency. Nice advert for Xpiks, right? :) No really, it makes my life much easier, I love it.

I find that the best way to find words that I wouldn't have thought of. Otherwise, I do have some standard sets of keywords for images that I do more often. I can open that saved text file, drop them in, and add important specifics.

I always put the most important words first, just because of Adobe, I don't think the word order matters anywhere else?

A combination of found words, then saved sets that I can apply, which saves time.

BreezeBrowser Pro software, which does much more, but I only use it as my keywording utility. I can put the words in the order I want them, save and export or import word sets, and it works for all data fields including pasting to multiple images, all at once.

I use Bridge as well. For some reason, it always takes 30 seconds or so to assign the meta I enter to the image. Basically, I grab a set of similars and assign them a general set of keywords that mostly apply, go get a drink, come back, and then check them one by one to add or remove anything applicable.

Does it work for you. I used it for years, but since a half year ago it is not working (doesn't collect keywords after images are chosen). I missed it a lot.

shutterstock: I paste the suggested words, which match for the pic.
Adobe: I do the same on Adobe. Then I copy all good keywords from Adobe and paste them on shutterstock, cause shutterstock automaticly delete keywords, which were already paste there.
Then I have the general keywords.
Then I use my general keywords, which are still missing.
And then the at the very end I put the most important words on it. For example there are 10 important keywords, then I put them in my brain in a follow with the most important on the top.I then write them from number 10 to number 1, not caring if some of them already listed, because they will get deleted automaticly and the important words are all on the top. Now I copy them and paste them to the image on Adobe and have automaticly the right order for Adobe - and Alamy and everywhere.

But now I changed my mind about that. Because usually I used to many keywords even if they are relevant, but to many are also bad - especially for Adobe and Alamy.
So now I use only the really important words in the right order on stocksubmitter. A day later I check again, if there might be some important keywords missing. That´s all.
My new passion is to use as less as possible.

For what using "coastline", if you use beach already and not the line of the coast is important in the image?
If you see only one rock on the beach in that image and indeed it usually is a very rocky beach, but not seen on the image, why using ´rocky beach´?

But that is a new idea from me to find out, if the ranking of the images get higher with less keywords and hopefully found from that buyers, who really search for that image. Who reall search for it will use enough keywords from that less keywords I use. - I hope!

At series with mostly similar keywords i synchronize these keywords to the other images.
Last step save meta data in file - done.
Agencies reading out metadata from file.
With istock there is some work in DeepMeta. Adobe stock is also some work with essential keywords placing in front. There should Adobe Bridge do better. But i have no workflow with Adobe Bridge. I import, develop, and keyword my images in LRC an do some changes in PS.

Post by: cascoly on October 12, 2020, 19:28: keywording is a slow process, but a factor that's been ignored here is that any decent auto-keywording app relies on good title/desc - and that can take as long as keywording! If you're submitting a lot of images that can use similar titles, that a bit easier, but writing good captions is my slowest part of the process. I do it in excel, so can easily modify, and creating keywords from a good caption, along with handy lists of more generic keywords (landscape, art, nature, organic, etc, etc) goes faster

so you really need to consider both captioning & keywording in your decision - that's why i haven't outsourced keywording - once i've done the work to completely identify the image, most of my work is already done
