I wonder to know how much money did you invest for a "everyday" photoshoot. More precisely for each images you upload to the agencies...

You can simply make the calculation by dividing the total cost of your everyday photoshoot by the number of images you are uploading from it.

I'm not talking about the most expensive photoshoot in your life, but it will still be interesting to know and what exactly this photoshoot was for!!!

I'm trying to make this poll simple. The poll is in dollar and I know that things are different for each country. Just calculate approximatively and it will make the job. It could have some modification on the way, depending on the participation...

hi,

usualy, there are no costs for my kind of images. sometimes I buy some fruits or some stuff like this but its not realy expensive. even if I add the amortisation of my camera equipment, there are not much costs.
BUT if you add the opportunitiy costs.... then there are some serious costs.....

It's basically man-hours for me (woman-hours in fact) and I'm giving a rough estimate that, for a series of 4 images, it takes me 4h for shooting, sorting, editing, keywording and uploading.  Now, how much is my hour worth?

Regards,
Adelaide

Mine is under $5 without man hours.  I don't really have a good way to calculate that, it varies so much.  But I can say I work roughly 30-40 hours per week and make a satisfactory income, plus I LOVE doing this and you can't put a price on that.

Actually, I'm able to put a great amount of money for shooting... hours and everything. But I'm out of ressources and a bit out of inspiration. By ressources I mean, I have no relevent subject to shoot. I shoot mainly objects and don't live anymore often in a big city. I'm living in a small city for the next couple of months and I already visited all the stores here. Don't have to say they aren't have a huge variety of things for selling. No model. The only one I got here cancelled the session ::)

This small city have taken away most of my inspiration for the moment. Even the beautiful sunset seem to be the same day after day. Same peeple who take a walk at the same hour and everything. So let's make a party :)

are you talking me handing over cash or the 'technical' cost including depreciation and wear and tear of equipment, fuel, vehical costs, etc etc :):)

LOL, yes if you have to travel from (example) North US to Mexico for shooting on the beach, you can include this to the total... but only if you do this for almost every photoshoot ;)

I don't think it makes sense to speak about investment per image. I mean it could make sense for statistics; but it isn't realistic to count it reasonably precisely. For me there is a huge variation of cost - sometimes I walk a few meters from my house with my son (or even stay at home) and in that case the only cost is my time, and in that scenario it's not much of my time; sometimes I buy props, get some models, makeup artist, travel to a location and have a lunch/dinner in a restaurant - and that's another cost. Sometimes I drive to a location far away, but without any models - so it's just my time but quite a bit of it.

Another question is how to count the cost of equipment and accessories that I keep buying more or less regularly. Including equipment will have a great impact on my average cost.

As I suggested, just calculate what you do the most and it will be ok. It's not really an exact calculation, but more an average of what you have invested per images let say, in one year...

It seem that lot of photographers are not investing a lot more than 5$ per images.
