Title: How much do you think MicrostockPhotography.com is worth?
Post by: No Longer Cares on February 12, 2011, 21:42
Just throwing it out there.  How much do you think MicrostockPhotography.com (http://www.MicrostockPhotography.com) would be worth if I sold it/had an offer?

Do people really spend more than $10?for a domain these days?

Seriously, I can't imagine anyone would want to pay for that.  What is 'microstock photography' that would draw in people?  Sorry... Jmo.

Maybe a blogger would be interested. Not to start an actual agency...

$50 maybe for someone who knows how to work referral systems and ad placements.

For one click at Google, the search term costs over $1 and the list of sites fighting for that space is rather big.

The search term "microstock photography" alone bring in 1000s of hits a month.  All very targeted traffic.

If an agency was paying $1+ for a click from one of the major search engines (many of them are) for "microstock" related keywords, they would be spending 6 figures USD for the traffic.

So, I would say it's worth at least $11.  Maybe even $12.

So why aren't YOU capitalizing on that demand?

Well ... I have been, for a while.  And I have a huge list of referrals from it; both buyers and sellers, that do quite well.

BUT

I have had some offers.

Ask Jon Oringer, Kelly Thompson, Serban, etc ... then you'd know.

Most of the searches for "microstock" are most likely microstock contributors looking for new places to submit, or for secrets to success.  Of the entire internet's worth of image purchasing power out there, I doubt many of them even know what royalty-free means, let alone what microstock is.

It's an awfully long name to type in too...

You mean these days of good domain names being much harder to find?

I contacted a domain name squatter recently on behalf of a client, and the owner of the domain name wouldn't give me specifics but told me he was looking for a "high five-figure sum" for the domain in question. It was nothing special, and I was authorized to offer up to $300 for it. Obviously no deal was made.

But there are companies built on domain name buying and selling. And unlike our business, they don't make their living from $10 sales.

Depends on traffic and monthly earnings but I can see huge potentital to monetize such project. Usual price for smaller projects is 12-18 months project revenue, I wouldnt go under 24 months with this one. Check Flippa.com for similar projects, you'll see.

You could put it up for auction and let the market decide.
