Title: How this can be real?
Post by: melastmohican on September 09, 2008, 13:29
According to earnings poll all top 6 sites are down and those pathetic sites like Crestock, SnapVillage and Mostphotos are on the raise. I haven't seen any action there for last 3 months.

well they are down VERY little.  shutterstock is down .01 which is like one persons vote probably.  And down might just mean different people are voting or something.  If a bunch of people voted who don't have much of a portfolio, they may get similar downloads on dreamstime as bigstock just out of chance.

Why give a down on such a small sample? Or is that unavoidable?

Seems like SS is going down for a lot of people, and for me, DT and IS are catching up fast. There's also a thread about this at the SS forums, and those complaining aren't exactly newbies.

If SS has problems keeping the volume up, and with increased competition, that wouldn't surprise me, they may be in trouble. Reducing size is much tougher than growing, unless they have kept overhead costs at a bare minimum.

Perhaps another reason could be that it takes a lot of sales for the big 6 to grow or even stay even.  Last month was down for a lot of people in reagards to earnings (me included) and so perhaps people voted lots of the sites down.

On the contrary it takes very little for a poor site to reach it's usual sales, so if someone lucks out and gets one or two sales, they could have average earnings there and poor earnings on the good sites.
